Two similar quotes by Justice Alito and would-be Justice Sotomayor are being posted all over the Internet to imply that both have racist tendencies and that consevatives are using a double standard since, as they contend, Alito has made similar racist comments without opposition from the right. I've examined both quotes and have found that in context, Sotomayor's statement indicates that she feels that her experience as a Hispanic female makes her better able to judge cases than a white male who has not had her experiences. Alito makes no such claim of superior ability to judge cases than the opposite sex or other ethnic groups based on his life experience or for any other reason.
I've provided links to sites that have both sets of comments in their original context. If you are unwilling to read both of them in their entirety, please don't post on this thread.
Imagine that! I have a feeling they will still not admit Sotomayor's comments were straight out racist even though both she and hussein obama are admitting her comments were wrong (the truth of her character yet wrong).
Ugh, how many posts are there going to be of angry white right wingers calling Sotomayor racist? There's like 10 all ready.
She is a racist and everybody should be angry because she could be on the Supreme court. If she was white and made a statement like that about Hispanics the media would be all over her and YOU would be angry. She would be forced to withdraw. But I'm sure you think double standards are Ok.
I simply don't see racism in either statement. I think any attempt to claim racism has to be ignoring context.
As for "If she was white and made a statement like that....", clearly there is no reason a white would make a statement like that. We live in a country where whites have at the top forever. It has always been taken for granted that white males make the best decisions simply because they are white males. They dominate, they've been in charge, of course they make the best decisions -- or so it's always been believed. There is no reason for a white male to point out that is decision making ability is as good as that of a person from a minority group (including women).

Neither her comments or Alito's were racist. Everybody's life experience should make them better. Except those who are racist. And neither of them are. End of story.
In fact, coming back to the title of this thread, I have to question whether the OPer understands the meaning of "context".
True.....it should have said "when read OUT OF CONTEXT".........
but that gets in the way of blind hate.
