People have abused our right to free speech, and it's been warped beyond recognizion. I'm really not surprised and have expecting something to happen for quite awhile now.

Silverone, the thread starter here, wrote in his title;
Quote:
Censorship of different views has begun, is yours next?
I'm going to have to call shenanigans on you for the title. There is a big difference between expressing "different views" and asking your readers/listeners to;
Quote:
take up arms against two Connecticut lawmakers and an official with the Office of State Ethics.
The kind of stuff like the following sounds a lot like what comes out of the mouths of Operation Rescue and others, and that hasn't worked out so well for those that oppose them.

Quote:
It is our intent to foment direct action against these individuals personally,'' Turner's blog states. "These beastly government officials should be made an example of as a warning to others in government: Obey the Constitution or die."
Somehow I think that if I wrote on here that silverone or other right wing posters should be prepared to die because I'm going to ask the left wingers on here to arm themselves to the teeth and come make an example of you, you wouldn't call it a "different view", would you?

Would you like my address, I did not know he called for anyone to be killed, but to censor him with out telling why other than harrassing comments seems quite vague. If he was for abortion isn't that the same calling for the death of a baby.

Bad is bad, no matter what skin color, shape or size.
This country would not exist, if it were not for "Give me Liberty or give me death".
This country was founded on good men fighting oppression.

With guns if necessary. Why do you think there is a weapons and ammunition shortage? This gov't knows it can't fix it's corruption, and they are nervous.

Your thread title proves you just blindly believed the inference on his website that he was arrested for speaking his mind. "Censorship of different views has begun." The actual news story turned out to be different.

Then perhaps the next time you start a thread based solely on the writings of a defendant in a criminal matter, you might think about checking more objective sources first.

The rest of your argument is a non sequitur.

Individual abuse of our rights has been cause for many to advocate massive restriction and even outright repealing of those rights. One person or a certain group of people go over the top and we hear howls for 'bans' or 'controls'. The govenment is all to happy to comply with this. Free speech is the most abused right we have. But what constitutes 'abuse' is often in the eye of the beholder. Just because certain people do not like what another certain person is saying is not grounds for advocating the restriction of a persons right to expression, or for punishing them for that expression.There is nothing in the 1st amendment that says a persons speech must conform to standards of 'political correctness' or that said speech must be of a type phrased to be unoffensive.

I'm pretty sure that if someone was calling for people to take arms against you (or a family member), advocated your death if you did not follow the constitution and was going to post your address online to make it easier for those called to action to find you, you would demand that they be arrested immediately.

He was threatening people's lives apparently.
“Mr. Turner’s comments are above and beyond the threshold of free speech," said State Capitol Police Chief Michael Fallon. "He is inciting others through his web site to commit acts of violence and has created fear and alarm. He should be held accountable for his conduct,” said Fallon.
