And the free market brought GM and Chrysler to the position that they are in, obsolete and out of step, just like the Edsel.
So, where does that leave us regarding the OP... if you believe that GM should have simply have been liquidated then there is nothing to debate because they wouldn't be making edsels or any other car for that matter.

Actually Chrysler would've been sold off decades ago b/c there'd be no bailout. BK and possible restructuring. Perhaps they'd be in better shape without gubmint help?
Then again, I can't expect a bailout apologist to agree.
