Well Israel saw something positive in Obama's speech.

JERUSALEM – Israel said it hoped President Barack Obama's speech to the Muslim world Thursday would help usher in a "new period of reconciliation" in the Middle East, but the positive emphasis barely masked discomfort over key policy differences highlighted in the historic address.

Israel hopes Obama speech will lead to peace - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090604/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_israel_obama - broken link)

Don't we all.

Peace can only come through leadership. Peaceful leadership can only come from a peaceful electorate. As long as Hamas rules Gaza, there will be no peace for Israel. As long Iran threatens to wipe Israel off the face of the map, there will be no peace for Israel.

Grand speeches are just words. Obama's eloquence is nice, but back in the real world talk is cheap. Ordinary citizens of war-torn countries will have forgotten about Obama's grandiose proclamations by tomorrow.

As long as Israelis live on stolen land there will be no peace. As long as Jewish people in Israel discriminate against non-Jews there will be no peace.

As long as Israel maintains an illegal nuke arsenal unilaterally there will be no peace in the region.

As long as Palestinians are locked up in concentration camps, given no democracy or the right to vote, there will be no peace, until Israel changes its ways. Israel needs to tear down its Wall too, it was used to separate human beings from land Israel stole.

That side was covered by John B. Fury, who neglected to mention the many sins and bigotry of the Israelis. I was just balancing out the facts.

I agree. For there to be progress toward peace both sides must try to understand the others' needs, and not play the nonsensical propagandist blame game (the posts here of the ID Avengiece are excellent examples of that tiresome garbage).

blah blah blah...some right wing nut like yourself said the same thing about the Sinai, the same thing about Lebanon, the same thing about Gaza and the West Bank. ....

As always you are wrong. Israel is no more threatened today than when they were before they go out of other people's land they illegally occupied.
