So the guy said something stupid. They are really being brutal to him. "Reverend" Al Sharpton (who is by the way not a reverend) is a racist himself, and so is Jesse Jackson.

Don Imus might have said something dumb but thats no reason to call for him to lose his job over it.

What has this country come to ? Whatever happened to the First Ammendment?

I don't understand why he is being crucified by the media like this.

Well, actually Al Sharpton is a Reverend...since he was 10 years old.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Sharpton

He said a horrible thing whether it be racist, sexist or just plain vulgar and insensitive about girls who are accomplishing so much in their lives. Not only was it apparently his personal opinion, he broadcast it nationwide. If he can't control himself, he shouldn't be airing his opinions so widely. Guess he won't now!

I can't agree. What he said was really vicious. It takes a lot of dedication to play sports at that level, and those young gals weren't public figures.

No, hes not. He has not been ordained.

What he said was not nice, but it wasnt racist.

If he were black and he said that, would you call him a racist?

He just said something dumb and people are crucifying him for it. People are just ridiculous.

You can't say anything these days without someone calling you a racist.

I don't care. This issue is meaningless, compared to other problems in this country. And it's not like the government stepped in on this. This was a privately held company making a decision which was well within their rights.

The thing is, he said an awful thing. But he's been saying awful things for thirty years and nobody ever complained or made a media-scandal!

As I said in another thread about this issue, I'd be happy if all shock radio hosts would go to hell and disappear- they are vicious, abusive and contribute nothing good to our society.

But if we let them get away with three decades of abuse and suddenly nail them for one single remark, the people are going to think that something stinks. Specially when a racist like Imus goes and apologizes to a racist crook such as Al Sharpton!

You think he should be fired?

What about free speech and the first ammendment?

I bet he wasn't even really thinking twice when he made those comments.

Don Imus made racially inappropriate remarks and needs to be fired, this goes beyond free speech(first ammendment), which in fact is the same thing. You would have to be blind to not realize his statement were racist.

That applies to the government restricting free speech. MSNBC is a private company.

The network exec who sat there and egged Imus into saying it should go too.

Imus pissed in someone else's victory beer, a sour grapes remark from a puny mind.

Imus has been a wiseguy and bomb-throwing shock jock (of sorts) for too long. Reminds me of guys who were banned from C-D.

We deserve something much more intelligent to listen to. There's no shortage of serious topics. Don't need more bombastic, rude, in your face talk show types, just good discussion based on facts, not sound bites. Think Larry King or Bob Scheiffer or NPR, not Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh or Al Franken.

If there is any place at all for the sort of comments made by Imus, it's on the comedy circuit / channels, not a public show that purports itself to be serious commentary.
