Just what we've been telling you for the last eight years. Put somebody in that treats Muslims with fairness and things begin to settle down.

Yet another example of bankrupt right wing foriegn policy being proven wrong.

Your ignorance is embarrassing.

Another attempt to rail against George W. Bush with no basis in fact whatsoever.

Here, i'll school you a bit: 2005 Lebanon election results. Guess who was President?

I'm a Lebanese Christian, I don't like Hezbollah, and I would've voted against them yesterday. I can personally tell you that the idea of Hezbollah using shields is one of the biggest myths ever made. They were miles and miles away from some Christian areas like Junieh.

momonkey,
Yes, there certainly were elections.
But to what end? What's the point of elections when there is an arsenal and army which is more powerful than that of the elected government? And when that army imposes its will on the elected government through violence when the govt makes any move against it (remember May, 2008)?

Lebanese elections, but not Lebanese democracy.

Hezbollah won all the seats it ran for, and even though March 8 didn't win, Hezbollah is still going to reject any major decision made by the March 14 government regarding their weapons, even if its by force. March 8 Win or lose, Hezbollah is still the strongest group in the country and among the strongest in the region.

If the radicals have been gaining power in recent years, and now they did not, then I'd see that as a reversal of a trend. That is why it is considered a defeat for them.

You left wing nutjobs are quite deluded. It's always the US's fault to you. How about Middle East countries respect the United States more first? They will attract more bees with honey than with vinegar.

My, what a short and selective memory you have.

Bush was a major supporter of the anti-syrian/iranian factions.

This is true, but his efforts were fruitless, and often counterproductive. For example Hamas, another terrorist organization, won the elections which Bush insisted on. Then he supported Fatah, another borderline terrorists organization, so that they would oppose Hamas. It's quite a soup over there.

Always has been. A point of frustration for every president the last 40 years.
