Republican congessmen introduced DOMA in the 1990s. Congress passed it, and Bill Clinton signed it into law. Bush had nothing to do with it.
George Bush spent a few cursory moments promoting a federal marriage amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, but it didn't go anywhere. I'm sure it was just another bone to throw to the Evangelicals to keep them quiet.
I said campaigned for doma....nothing else.....geesh.
I said conservative on both - it's what he campaigned on.
So at least I have an idea what to expect the next time a self-anointed fiscal conservative republican comes down the pipe.
I selected "other" on the poll, since the choice I would have made wasn't listed ... and is probably against forum rules, anyhow.
Thank you for telling us. I wonder what the others who voted "Other" are thinking. I probably shouldn't have included that option because it's meaningless when you don't get an explanation.
