As Europe Goes, So Goes the US?
Well this is an interesting Associated Press article. Apparently, European voters are punishing lefties in their elections. Squishy Republicans in office who think the solution to election woes is to become Democrat-lite, and you know who you are, the best tactic for winning the next election may be to let the lefties hang themselves (figuratively, not literally) by their own words and actions.
Right-leaning governments are ahead of the opposition in Germany, France, Italy and Belgium. Conservative opposition parties are leading in Britain and Spain.

I saw that too and found it fairly interesting. I was thinking the other day how we are following in the footsteps of the old European empires.

Conservatives in Europe are different than "conservatives" here. The Torries in England are called "conservatives" but they are more like the Democrats here. Except for small racist parties, there is no "Republican" party there.

I've wondered about this too. We may be entering an era of social democracy as the Europeans have had over the last few decades.

"Centre Right" in Europe is still "Centre Left" in America. Conservatives have nothing to be excited about here. Do you think they'll suddenly dismantle health care, repudiate global warming and take cues from Rush Limbaugh? Doubtful.

That would be hilarious in the French tried to get Rush to leave the US and broadcast in their country. I bet he could draw fan base, albeit small over in Europe.

The difference is, of course, Europeans would be rejecting what they've experienced not like in America where it's still looming on the horizon. I keep thinking about Spain, now experiencing 17.34% unemployment and their "green job" fiasco once they went down that road.

Yes, the EU conservatives are as far right as the Dems here. Maybe not even that far right. In other words there will be no changes to Health Care or education. They will continue to be government subsidices, although they will attempt to expand the private sectors in those two areas. Other that those areas, the EU already has private free market economy. If they move a little more to the right and US moves a little more left, then the two would be pretty similar .
The Green Party made big gainst too, so we can expect them to spend even more on green tech.

We were becoming more like europe for years and it finally caught up with us. But we swung even further to the left instead of really trying to solve our dilemma and just compounded out problems. In a few years we'll be fully aware of the extent of our error and follow Europe again and swing back to the right, or at least the center. Hopefully by that time BOTH parties will be abandoned and a more centrist or libertarian party will be put in power by popular demand of the people and the special interests won't be able to stop it.

Maybe not, but stimulus and bailouts will stop dead and ZERO nationalization of companies. That's a good thing.
