I'm sure others have noticed this belief, some happier for it than a pig in a poke, others, like me, who are critical of it. There is a time and a place to swagger around the stage, to succumb to illusions of grandeur, to tout or toot your own horn. However, the position of POTUS is not really it.

Despite his boldness, Barack Obama seems as fated to fail as were Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter. And for the same reason: a belief in his own righteousness and moral superiority, and a belief that his ideals and his persona count mightily in the modern world.
As for Barack, he behaves on the world stage like some Ivy League kid ashamed of the people he came from, letting one and all on campus know that he is nothing like his benighted family with its sordid history.
For the 100th time, he declared, "I have unequivocally prohibited the use of torture by the United States, and I have ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed by early next year."
Is Obama unaware that Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia run prisons that make Guantanamo look like The Breakers at Palm Beach?
I don't often agree with Pat Buchanan, but this is one article I do agree with. When was the last time, the last President you remember who, everytime he gets on the world stage, apologizes for things, for events he had nothing to do with? I was asked a rather stupid and naive question back in the 80s, as to how I was responsible for my father's and grandfather's treatment of blacks in their community. I laid that gunny's head on the table with my answer: How could I be responsible, how can I apologize for something I know/knew nothing about? I don't apologize to anyone for something I had nothing to do with, period. Obama should consider doing the same thing, strongly consider.

Global reality! The last president didn't have a clue what was happening in the world around him. Obama sure is a big difference from the last president who didn't care much for accountability of anything and grinned like a crap eating goat when making one of his multitudes of unintelligent remarks. A Forest Gump in the flesh.
A leader needs to show confidence. That is one of the basic qualities of leadership.
Belief in the self is maybe something conservatives, in their emotional insecurity, despise in others.
"There is a time and a place to swagger around the stage, to succumb to illusions of grandeur, to tout or toot your own horn. However, the position of POTUS is not really it." seems, it is "in the eye of the beholder" I don't see him swagger at all. I see a diplomat. with our last POTUS I did see swagger and I saw an arrogance that is certainly lacking from obama. he has never once made an apology on behalf of the US. for our actions. america has been a huge bully, forcing our ideals and our military on other countries. a little diplomacy might go a long way in being able to live in a peaceful world.

Confidence; YES
Arrogance; NO
To date, I've seen more arrogance than I've seen confidence.
