Obama admits health care overhaul may die on Hill - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100205/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_overhaul - broken link)

I can't say I'm crying buckets.
My heart goes out to those who are uninsured, who have high premiums, have high deductibles, etc but this bill Congress put together is not the direction our country needs to go in.

We can learn a lot from all the other industrialized countries that have managed to figure out universal health care. We are the only industrialized country that doesn't guarantee health care to all it's citizens. Let's take a look at Germany, France, the UK, and Canada. They all get very good marks in certain areas.

I would have to do intense reasearch to get the real answers but I wonder how the people of those nations feel about their Governments?

Americans feel their Government is wasteful wreckless irresponsible and untrustworthy.

I think Government has to earn our trust if they want to have universal HC in America.

cleanhouse is right, we can have comprehensive health care reform, but I don't believe now is the time when people have so little faith in the government (and rightfully so). I haven't done the research either, but I am under the impression that the people in those countries generally support their health care systems (I know someone will post some little tale of "their overseas friend who hates it" but I guess that's just as valid as my assertion, so fair enough). I think the mindset difference is just cultural. We are very individualistic here in the US and like to take care of our business ourselves. I'm not saying one attitude is better than another, they're just different.

And what would the government need to do in order to earn your trust?

Eliminate taxes thus not to have a way to pay for itself?

Lets start with a simple reduction of the deficit to reasonable levels.

Not eliminate taxes how about just reducing the burden on Americans.

How about for once this Government gets its Damn priorities straight.

Don't believe it...

This article was posted two days ago.

Democrats protect backroom deals

The health care bill is in trouble, but a series of narrow deals — each designed to win over a wavering senator or key interest group — is alive and well, despite voter anger over the parochial horse-trading that marked the rush toward passage before Christmas.

With the exception of Nebraska Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson’s “Cornhusker Kickback,” which alienated independent voters and came to symbolize an out-of-touch Washington, none of the other narrow provisions that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid inserted into the bill appear to be in any kind of danger as Democrats try to figure out the way ahead.

Not only that, House liberals want to reopen the labor deal struck just days before Democrats lost their 60-vote majority — not to dial it back but to provide more generous protections from the tax on Cadillac insurance plans.

Oh my list is much longer for them to gain my trust

1-Stop lying to the American people
2-Stop wasting our money pay for their own meals, drinks, flowers etc
3-Stop insulting the American people
I could go on but I wont.

Hurray to us, that's how we take care of business ourselves as a Christian nation, so help us God:
50 million people with no health care coverage in one of the richest countries in the world, endless number of bankrupcies due to people's inability to cover their skyrocketting medical bills, people dying premature deaths from not being able to afford preventive care or address a health condition in its early symptoms, insured sick people being denied insurance coverage due to "preexisting conditions", pregnant women with no prenatal care, the highest underweight babies rate in US in 40 years, the list goes on and on.

"If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother." Deuteronomy 15:7

P.S. Thank you, PurpleLove08.

I voted against Obama in the primary. He doesn't deserve the support of strong progressives because he doesnt lead. He's a triagulator. Preserving the status quo and his hide are his most important priorities.

Of course he's light years ahead of these knuckle dragging GOP candidates but that a very low bar to clear.

I think the coupling of government with Big Business does a big disservice to many Americans.
I am a Socialist but I am not for Big Government. I want SMART government; a government that works for it's people not huge corporations and helping them pad their bottom line.

While I understand people may not trust government, with universal health care, many times the government is not making every day medical decisions. With a single-payer system, they just pay the bills. Nothing more, nothing less. Medical decisions will be between a doctor and the patient.
