Default What is a conservative?

I don't want to hear a story about how you grew up in a little town in Mid-America and you've gone to church your whole life.

I want to know exactly what is required for a person to be a conservative.

You aren't going to get a viable answer from many people on this one. Just like you wouldn't if you asked WTF is a Liberal.

Many people conveniently attach themselves to the political party that can advance them depending on their income brackets, social lives, his/her ethnicity, or just plain misguided and ill-informed viewpoints.

Let's not kid ourselves on this one. There aren't tens of millions self proclaimed leftists and righty whiteys in the US and having even a fraction of them understand our political system.

Those "conservatives" claim smaller government is the answer.

Unless:

You want to tell your citizens who can and can not marry, then it's ok.

You want to occupy third world countries that did not attack us, then it's ok.

You want to oversee the largest expansion of Medicare/Medicaid recent history, then that's ok.

You want to double the debt, then that's ok.

You want to send the national deficit to the moon, then that's ok.

Well, yeah, and that is a problem because a lot of them will say you're not a "real" conservative unless you're a social or religious conservative. They have a litmus test.

The problem is that very few conservative politicians are actually conservatives anymore. There are plenty of real conservatives out there, they just haven't seemed to have had much of a voice in a decade or so because many conservative politicians don't really practice old school fiscal conservatism (they may when it comes to their own checkbook, but not the taxpayer's checkbook).

Most liberal politicians aren't any better. They all vote themselves raises continuously, they all get the grease, and we need TERM LIMITS! Serving in government should be more like a civil service commitment than a career.

Did I mention TERM LIMITS?!!

the older I get, the more of an anarchist I become. every law they write in washington denies another of freedom. it's pathetic.

I say those christians aren't real conservatives.

Those parts were in motion way before people forced them as exclusively partisan issues.
