The Dems have distorted their own history, on the Dem website they say Ron Brown — former Chairman of the Democratic Party — best summed up the party when he wrote:
Ron Brown did indeed distort the history of the Democrat Party. As you correctly said, the Democratic-Republican Party formed in 1800 in opposition to the Federalist Party. For 28 years the Democratic-Republican Party, a.k.a. "The Party of Jefferson", dominated US politics. It was only after Andrew Jackson lost the 1824 election that the Democrat Party was formed in 1828 by Andrew Jackson. Those that did not join Jackson's Democrat Party became Whigs. The Whig Party was so named to mock Jackson, who ruled as if he were King. Twenty-eight years later, the Whig Party would become the Republican Party.

Default Refreshing

Good thread, glad to see that some Democrats are uneasy about the path that their party has taken. As a member of the traditional conservative wing of the Republican party(NOT Neocon) am often accused of 'crying wolf" when expressing horror at the direction the new administration is taking the nation. Many of us have warned that the Democratic party has been hijacked and stolen from its members that believe in Democracy and replaced by leaders that are leading down the path of Marxism. Both parties are a mess. The Republicans are almost leaderless and badly need to regroup, and the Democrats need to take back their party from the control of the radicals.

It's hard to understand how true Democrats can be OK with this highjacking. I'm certainly not.

They are not okay with this highjacking, as Zell Miller said during the 2004 Republican National Convention:

Quote:
No one should dare to even think about being the Commander in Chief of this country if he doesn't believe with all his heart that our soldiers are liberators abroad and defenders of freedom at home.

But don't waste your breath telling that to the leaders of my party today. In their warped way of thinking America is the problem, not the solution.

They don't believe there is any real danger in the world except that which America brings upon itself through our clumsy and misguided foreign policy.
The Democrat Party is being lead by the "Hate America First" crowd, and has been since 2000. Clinton may not have been an ideal President, but at least he did not hate his own country, or consider the US to be the root of all evil as the current administration clearly does.

The Republicans have their own battle between the true conservatives and the liberal neo-conservatives, but the more important battle, in my opinion, is between traditional pro-American Democrats and the anti-American Democrats.

Come on what kinda stuff is that , we arent able to ask our leaders a question without our privacy being violated to check us out and then give it to the media.

Really thats what the democrat party has come to.

There is fairly sizable group of us who are Democrats, have always voted Democratic and we do not agree with Obama. We see him for the fraud he is and we see the downward direction he is taking the country. Other Democrats absolutely HATE us because we will not tow the party line.

I received hate e-mails and threats (even here on C-D) for not towing the party line. I have been threatened, told to get in line with Obama's policies, mocked, made fun of, etc, etc all by OTHER DEMOCRATS!

Sadly, the Democratic party has been highjacked. The current brand of Obamacrats are not true Democrats. True Democrats believe in and fight for freedom of speech. True Democrats are inclusive and welcoming of all (even white men....gasp!). True Democrats believe each person can be who they are....whatever that may be....even Republican. Believe it or not, true Democrats are logical and clear thinking, with much more heart and sensitivity than Republicans.

To receive hate e-mails and hatefull comments is bad, but to receive them from within your own party is simply disgusting. To have a president of your own party that wants to squash any freedom of speech against his policies is simply wrong.

Other true Democrats out there, speak up! Don't let Obama and the Obamacrats make a mockery of a once great party!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What you say in so many ways is true of both parties. Neither party holds major platform planks similar to my beliefs. I'm fiscally conservative, pro-gun rights, pro-choice and pro-death penalty, and in favor of very limited government. I also believe in seperation of church and state. Neither party consistantly supports all these items.

I've typically voted R, since they claim to be in favor of smaller government and fiscal responsibility. After the spending excess of the last few years of the Bush admin (with the D's help in congress), I was torn, but ended up voting for McCain as the lesser of 2 evils-I understand your decision to go the opposite way for the similar reasons. However, Obama's spending binges have pretty well demonstrated that his approach isn't sustainable-the hangover is going to be monumental.

In too many areas the Rs are dominated by the "religious right", while the Ds are perceived as dominated by the "socialist/multiculturalist" left. The so-called blue-dog Democrats may be the wave of the future. A party that truely supported fiscal responsibility, less government intrusion and didn't pander to the extremists of either side might have possiblities. Unfortunately I don't see that happening within either party these days.

There is plenty of hatred from both sides towards those that don't "toe the line" with respect to their parties core beliefs. Though I would have to say that the venom from the left is more extreme.

Still spewing out the sour grapes over the primary, huh? Obama isn't perfect..I don't agree with everything he does, far from it. However, there is a bigger picture here, for example the recent SC nomination ...would you rather Obama filled such openings or a Republican?

If and fact you ever were a Democrat, and I've seen no evidence of it other than your claims, it's time you got back on board...or would you prefer, as I suspect, another 4 to 8 years of Republican control?

Funny how you totally discount the FACT that they voted for him in overwhelming numbers and if it came down to the same two candidates they would do it again. A bunch of rightwing wishful thinking or are you trying to convince yourselves vast numbers of people now dislike President Obama, the polls say otherwise. Well, get used to President Obama, he is not going anywhere for a long time to come, he will be YOUR President even if you cry about it the entire time. Life is too short to waste on such behavior, get a hobby.
