I think Imus was out of line and deserved a suspension but that the firing was wrong.
I'm hoping maybe there will be enough of a backleash to squelch the Ranting Reverends for a while. I would encourage everyone who doesn't agree with the firing to write the networks and sponsors who pressed for firing and tell them why you'll avoid their products.
Never even listened to him. But I did hear he was an equal opportunity insulter. He apparently made his living insulting everyone and everything for the ratings, to get peple fired up. So a suspension, perhaps many prior as well, would have sufficed, IMO.
Now had he named and targeted one or more of the ladies specifically - there'd been a nice juicy lawsuit!
If I sued every time I heard "Irish Drunk", "Italian Mafia Gangster" or "Dumb Blonde Joke", I'd buy Bill Gates out.
Wanna hear crude? Ask a Philadelphian about the Dallas Cowboys players! Heck, ask a Philadelphian about their very own players, particularly baseball, over the years! Imus could hang with them for some material if he goes to Satellite Radio with Stern. It'd get a lot more personal than bashing the group.
Individual targets here. Borders on character defamation sometimes. Talk to poor Charlie Manuel. He speaks with a southern drawl and is even made fun of by the media more for how he talks than how he manages. They call the guy "Elmer Befuddled". Why hasn't he sued anybody?
And Hillary Clinton -- phew. Between the being "not exactly female" barbs and her appearance -- geez, and Chelsea (sp?)! NO holds barred there.
Surprised nobody's sued our Sports Talk guy in Philly yet. He likes to call callers "Idiot", "Moron" & such. But gotta realize, it's his gimmick to get people fired up. They HATE him here with a passion, but just try to get through. His lines are always clogged! Go figure...
My sister's called me worse than what some stranger/radio bigmouth called the ladies for ratings. They are better than him, and they should have known that. Now he'll only get a sweet deal like Howard did from all the hype.
I've always looked at Rev Al as more of a Don King sort, part entertainer and showman, only with political platforms added on.
I did give him points for going on the Morton Downey, Jr. show & letting Morton grill him, seemed like a pretty good sport about it. Couldn't picture Jesse ever doing that without storming off in an indignant huff and suing over it. If you pinned Al down one on one, without cameras around, at least he seems like he could be a little open minded and cool about things.
He's more for show out in the open, though.
