South Carolina has never taken the law OFF the books. They said they were leaving it on the books in hopes that a future Supreme Court would reverse that decision and they could again enforce it.

I bet the Florida GOP platform isn't much better. Like the Texas GOP, they feel a need to use "God" as a justification for their beliefs.

Ah, I see. Not surprising, I guess, given the history and culture of South Carolina.

And then there's this from the California Republican Party. What a bunch of jerks. To me, it's just more proof that the Republican Party is officially anti-gay.

"We believe public policy and education should not be exploited to present or teach homosexuality as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle. We oppose same-sex partner benefits, child custody, and adoption."

What the Texas GOP wants to do (according to the platform) is strip the federal courts of jurisdiction to hear cases involving sodomy.

Exactly right. Jefferson would adhere only to the Four Gospels, which are the closest documents extant that actually quote Jesus. The founding fathers had seen the bloody conflicts in Europe between Catholics and Protestants, and wanted to insure that such atrocities never happened here.
A great book is With God On Our Side, by Michael Weinstein, a Republican and West Point grad, describing how fundamentalist religion has been inserted into the armed forces. Phyllis Schafley did the same with her Eagle Forum, only their target was school boards, in order to impose one religion on every public school. Many of the problems with our educational system
have resulted from that agenda; people were locally elected not because they understood education but due to the churches they attended. The attempts to introduce theocracy and even hasten Armageddon continue.

Gawd- you are telling me. We live next door to them in Georgia. It is like the stone age over there! The only reason to go over there is to buy fireworks!

No lottery in South Carolina or Alabama either which is a good thing because they all come over here and buy lottery tickets that pay for Georgia kids to go to college and pre school.

Keep in mind that bans on gambling and prostitution are not limited to states where the RR has a lot of power. Every state, except Nevada, bans prostitution. Most states ban gambling with some exceptions.
