I know. That's my exact fear. I think the platform needs to be changed ASAP to avoid this, especially as TX becomes more diverse.
My state Senator is a Democrat; she won in November and my senate district has been controlled by Republicans for something like 20 years. I'm afraid that more of this crap from the RR will cause that to happen in far more districts.

A Texas without Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and El Paso would be a third world country.
The big cities in TX are becoming more and more liberal. Even mine (many people don't think of us as a big city, but we are)...the biggest red city in the country...is teetering on the edge and may go blue soon.
Texans in general are independent and entreprenurial. We need fiscally conservative leadership, but we have GOT to get rid of the RR. Otherwise, Texas will go blue. It's a matter of time.
The psychotic, control-freakish nature of the religious right has already brought the GOP to its knees. These fundies are convinced that their magic, invisble middle eastern sky giant has given them "the plan" and that their mission is to enforce it. On everyone.
They're loonies, fruitcakes, whackos. They have absolutley no business injecting their twisted "morality" into public policy.
And they now control the GOP.
We all see the results.
Bye-bye, Republican party. I've made campaign contributions to your RNC. I've voted Republican since Nixon. I've voted Democratic once. But I'll more than likely spend the rest of my life voting agaist every Republican candidate for every office at every level.
Republicans: you disgust me. What you've done to my country cannot be forgotten or forgiven. And your continuing childish intransigence will ensure more defeats in coming elections. Shame on you.

I knew the Texas state Republican Party platform was socially conservative. I'd read parts of it and read a lot about it, but didn't realize exactly how extreme it was and how far they actually took it. I just read it in its entirety and am baffled.
The good news - the TX platform has been lauded as one of the most socially conservative state ones in the country, the national platform is not nearly as bad as this, and most candidates for state offices in TX are nowhere close to this extreme. It still frustrates me immensely.
1) the word "God" is mentioned probably about 100 times, if not more, and they want to dispel the "myth" of separation between church and state
2) they actually want to ban all forms of pornography and want homosexual acts criminalized
3) they want to ban abortion, but they apparently want no exceptions and they also want to ban certain forms of contraceptives (seems so counterproductive....contraceptives PREVENT the need for abortion)
4) they want a state law to force teaching intelligent design in public schools, want a state law banning teaching any sex ed other than abstinence only in public schools (goes back to the abortion thing....comprehensive sex ed can REDUCE abortions among the young) and want to revise rape laws to include consensual sex between teenagers in the same age range, while making the death penalty a punishment option for rape
5) they want to end the state lottery

Also, I would like to report that their featured speaker at their state convention is E. J. Dionne. How left leaning can you get with someone like him? Just wondering.

This isn't about the Texas Faith Network or the Texas Freedom Network or about E.J. Dionne. It's about the platform, which is also accessible from the Texas Republican Party site. Perhaps I should have just posted the platform without the link to the Texas Freedom Network.
I think I may be contacting my state rep as well as the Republican Party of Texas itself, threatening to start voting Democrat if they do not change the platform. I will be encouraging as many other people as possible to do the same.
The Texas House of Representatives as of now consists of 76 Republicans and 74 Democrats. It wouldn't be too hard for three seats to flip in 2010.
