Well, well, well.

So all that was needed from the little pot-bellied dictator was a few threats of war and annihilation?

What was that obama said about getting the international community together on this?

Hot Air » Blog Archive » US won’t use force to inspect NoKo ship

Yeah, so much for his "smart power".
Truly! He folds like a cheap deck of "Go Fish" cards. 0bama blustered, and flustered, demand tough sanctions to inspect ships, and ran away with his tail between his legs.

THE MAJOR powers, including the United States and China, agreed overnight on a system to inspect suspect cargoes in and out of North Korea despite Pyongyang's warning that it would regard such checks as an act of war.

The draft UN resolution - a response to North Korea's May 25 nuclear test - would also expand the existing arms embargo on the country and clamp down on arms-related money transfers. The full 15-nation Security Council is expected to endorse the plan as early as tomorrow.

"This sanctions resolution, if passed by the Security Council, will bite and bite in a meaningful way," Susan Rice, Washington's UN Ambassador, said.

China, the closest North Korea has to a powerful ally, threw its weight behind the plan after watering down some of the language on inspections. "I hope countries will endorse the text," Liu Zhenmin, China's UN representative, said.

The proposed resolution is a tough response by the Obama Administration as it tries to break the cycle of offering repeated concessions to North Korea in return for broken promises of co-operation.

Sure we do. That is why our troops in Iraq are on their 5th rotations there and are there for up to 2 years with only 6 months stateside before going back. Yes, we have plenty of troops available to fight a military with 3 million or so people in it. And even if we did, by the time we GOT there, South Korea would be a smoldering wasteland. Within the first 3 hours, it would be reduced to rubble by hundreds of thousands of artillery shells from the North.

Certain people are so blinded by their hatred of President Obama that they fail to see the big picture Kev.

Is that why he demanded strong UN sanctions to inspect North Korean ships suspected of carrying nuclear material?

0bama is inviting chaos and war by appearing to be the coward.

If a bully hits your sister, and you threaten the bully with a beating, if he ever touches her again, and then run away when he hits her again, your are encouraging more of the same, and told him that no one will protect his sister, so he can do what he wants with her now.

The saying goes, "Walk quietly and carry a big stick." No where in that saying does it imply "..and then drop the stick and run away if danger rears its head."

The point is, if you are foolish enough to boldly declare a form of action, from a position of strength, and then not follow thru with it, you severely weaken yourself in the eyes of your opponents. In this case 0bama taught the world that America is a paper tiger. 0bama just showed the world that he is full of bluster and incapable of action. Too bad North Korea was not the board of directors for a hedge fund, or a US corporate executive.

Our allies will no longer be able rely upon the strength of America, because we no longer have the will to protect their back. The protesters in Iran found that out too.

Why do neocons/repugs ALWAYS want to settle everything like cave men???

Walk out of your cave , grunt, pound on chest, hit something like T. Rex and NEVER THINK of the CONSEQUENCES

Everything is so simple for them, just KILL......don't need a good reason nor a PLAN (reMIND you of anyone?)...just start killing or obviously you're a coward....like street gangs....EEEYYYEUWWW!!!!!!

Wonder if they'll ever notice that that is one of many reasons the Repubs aren't doing too well.......Americans are TOT...Tired of Tarzan!

sanrene, I was in the army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was part of the forces headed for Cuba. Our military was much larger in Oct, 1962.

I was also stationed in South Korea 1963 to 1964 and we were told if the North Koreans ever crossed the DMZ all we could do was slow them down until more troops could be sent in..and that most of us would die doing so.

Before we do anything to a ship on the open seas, we had better think of the 36,000 troops stationed in South Korea today... They wouldn't have much of a chance with 1 million North Koreans crossing the DMZ headed South...

Seoul South Korea is just a few miles from the DMZ.

Unfortunately Houston that's the way it's been for most of the last 55 years. Same way in the 60's, 70's into the 80's when the Warsaw Pact outnumbered our aircraft in Europe by 5-1 and our tanks by 6-1, not to mention whatever the manpower imbalance was.

I don't doubt that for a minute. We have come along way from those days in terms of technology, training and intelligence.

Sometimes the quality of a military force trumps the quantity of boots on the ground.
