I thought that their were certain foods you could not buy with food stamps. I guess I was wrong. However. To buy your family occasional goodies like ice cream or candy etc doesn' t bother me. As long as you buy your family real food, not cheap food, all the other times.

Yes, food products are limited, especially if you're on WIC.

I feel sorry for them in a certain way because I know they are able but unwilling to at least work to feed all those kids they seem to keep having.

The couple I mentioned above were dresses very nice, her hair was perfect, her nails done etc, the kids, dirty and in hand me down dirty clothes. Sad. They do not deserve to be parents at all.
I hear that all the time but I've never actually seen it. Yes, I've seen some parents dressed better than the kids but never seen well dressed parents with kids in dirty hand me down clothing (how can you tell if clothing is hand me down by the way? Were they extremely big and falling off the kids? Was there a little boy wearing a skirt and a shirt that said Diva) you would think these well dressed parents wouldn't want such dirty little kids in their expensive car.

Not everyone who receives food stamps is also on welfare. Not everyone who receives food stamps is lazy. What about people who lose their jobs? Fall suddenly ill? Women on high risk pregnancies who are forced to quit or take personal unpaid leaves because they won't be able to work for the entirety of their pregnancy. Let's say she's a married woman her and her husband were doing fine without food stamps but now that she's unable to work they must get food stamps to help bridge the gap. What do you suggest? That a pregnant woman on bed rest go work at a farm to EARN her food money?
what if on the other side of the coin, a wife with a husband who suddenly has a stroke. You suggest for someone who just had a stoke go work for his food, or send his wife? Oh but she has to take care of him because he can't even care for himself! Not everyone is able to determine their destiny or have full control of them at all times. We have no way of knowing when we'll fall ill or lose our jobs due layoffs. To label everyone taking food stamps as lazy and "leaches sucking off the rest of us" is wrong. I'm glad I've never had to take food stamps but I would never dare go on a public forum and pretend I've walked on everyone else's shoes.

See, most welfare people use you and your money to live on.

I believe we need to force all welfare suckers to go to a building within a city and pick up welfare type of food.

That way they will not be rewarded for being a lazy bum sucking off the rest of us.

The food will be all low end type foods that cost us the least amount of money.

Or we could have a government owned farm in every town make the welfare bums go out and actually grow and EARN their food.

I saw a welfare set of bums with 3 dirty kids in front of me at the grocery and they eat better then I do. Both able to work and should be embarrassed to being abusing my tax money, but they are not.

We also should put an orange license plate on their cars so we all know they are a welfare case, like the drunks have to have the yellow and red, we need to put the orange ones on all welfare cars.

LOL that's was I was thinking. Maybe the two well dressed parents are in a job training program. Maybe they are in school. Maybe they have two really crappy jobs that require them to dress up - I had to dress up when I worked at a call center selling Tamarack Tough Packs making $6 an hour Maybe the kids had been out playing and were just dirty. Maybe they'd been at grandma's and that's how they looked when mom picked them up. Maybe we spend too much time looking at people in the grocery store. The only time I notice people is when they're doing something really out of ordinary - like making out in the frozen food aisle while I'm trying to get my ice cream - or having a meltdown at the checkout because Mom won't buy you a Snicker bar. I rarely watch people closely enough to see if the card they are swiping is an EBT or a Visa...that's what the news rags are for. : Angelina caught Brad on the phone with Jen AGAIN

Good post. There are times when we need to help people out for the good of the nation. I am, however, against abuse of the system, to the extent that it happens. +1.

[quote=natalayjones;9500251]Even if we stop the food stamp program completely, it's unlikely your family will be able to buy anymore food. While you're upset in the grocery store, upset on your way home, upset while you put away your food, upset while you're typing - the person with the food stamps is at home eating the steak that you can't afford to buy and probably very happy.

Stop spending so much of your time worrying about what other people are doing/getting and how they are doing/getting it. I hope no one believes that if the welfare program is eliminated the government won't find another way to use your tax money - you're not going to get it back.

Food stamps, hot forum topic, I look at it this way, I don't care who's getting what for free, If someones kid got to eat because of my tax dollars, its okay. If they can't budget and starve for a week or two,
what can I say, except to feel sorry for the kids.

Regardless, the total was for $150 and the type of purchases were pretty ridiculous. For example they spent $10 on premium fruit juice (two 1/2 gallon containers), $12 on two packs of premium hot dogs, expensive snack foods, etc. Around $100 of it was spent very wastefully, the other $50 was spent on meats and such that were on sale. Anyhow, for the same money I could easily get double the food.

Anyhow, why have food stamps when the people so wastefully spend them? They are essentially store gift cards with some restricts. I don't think anybody should starve in an advanced country like the US, but at the same time why are tax payers forking out money so low-income folks can buy foods that many of don't buy because of the high costs?
This is not an excuse, just a guess at a reason and this is not for people who are temporarily in need of them. Maybe the bad decisions in life that got them to needing food stamps is still in effect when they're shopping. You know, maybe they're just incapable of making good decisions.

When you drop your kids off at school the other kids can follow them and chant "You ain't got no ice cream...cause you on the welfare...you can't afford it."
