Do you thinik it is time for the federal government to support this PTSD vet?
I too am a vet from that bygone era and I have mixed feeling about this. For even the last veteran of that war it's been 34 years. In my case it's been 40. The entire issue of PTSD was handled poorly way back then in the dark ages. Government turned a blind eye to it even though the precedents from the world wars and the Korean conflict were really quite clear. Only it was called battle fatigue and shell-shock way back when.
PTSD is now recognized by the federal government and a disabled vet has access to VA services for treatment and assistance. There's no excuse for refusing either to the veteven if it does go back 40 or more years for time of origin. By the same token the American Legion, VFW and other agencies will lend a hand and intercede on the vet's behalf.
With those resources available it is incumbent upon the individual to make sure they use them. It is not reasonable to expect that a government will hold their hand through all those years. At some point the individual has to take responsibility for themselves or admit defeat and check into a veterans home where all their needs will be taken care of.
Having said all that, I would decidedly side with the veteral whom I salute for his service and wish well.
Do you feel the federal government has a responsibility to make sure disabled veterans get due process from state governments?
Have you even read the story your posting? It appears that the vet has a dispute with a law firm as to how he was being billed. Its not a criminal matter, the DA would not even look at it, nor would any politician. Its a civil matter, the "disabled vet" (as if thats relevant to the story) is wasting his time going through a criminal complaint and neither state, or federal government has a responsiblity to get involved in a legal dispute, especially since the amount being disputed is $250.00 (i.e. $25 an hour difference * 10 hours)
Why do you think any government should get involved in a private divorce case or a dispute about the bill?

Stop banging your head against the wall. You'll be able to read better. There's a lot more to this than a billing problem.
