Zelaya nears Honduras, asks soldiers for loyalty - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090705/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_honduras_coup - broken link)

Quote:
Speaking live from the Venezuelan plane carrying him back to Tegucigalpa, Zelaya said he was just minutes away from landing in his high-stakes attempt to return to power.

He asked that soldiers return their allegiance to him, "in the name of God, in the name of the people, and in the name of justice."
I wonder if he has assurances from obama that he will support him and continue to put pressure on the congress, the courts and every other institution of Honduras that agreed with his removal from office.

We have a pretty good record.....

Saddam Hussain
The Taliban
Agusto Pinochet
Shaw Reza Pahlavi
Rafael Trujillo
Manual Noriega
Somozo
Batista
and the list goes on and on and on....

(that's not saying that the people they replaced or the people that replaced them, were wonderful human beings either, in most cases they were just as bad)

This is how the right wing shows their support for Democracy. The support a coup because it is a right wing coup not a left wing coup.

Do you understand now why the World doesn't trust us? Because when right wingers get in power in the USA they have no principles. They talk about loving Democracy and then turn around and support a Military backed coup....LOL

The Organization of Americans States just kicked Honduras out of it's organization because of this coup. The whole World knows when military thugs kidnap a President and put him on a plane out of the Country that is illegal. In fact they military admits it was illegal and is looking to their Congress for immunity from charges.

I wonder why the Honduran Military could not wait until it's Congress impeached Zelaya?

Since he was promoting actions that were not supported legally or legislatively, it seemed like these were grounds for impeachment.

Who is this congressman that was installed into the presidency by the military? Is he the one next in line for the presidency of this country? If not, why did he accept the job?

Are conservatives looking deep enough?

You're woefully misinformed. Zelaya was stopped from cirumventing the Constitution in an attempt to usurp powers not granted him. It wasn't a coup, it was the Honduran judiciary and military acting to save their democracy.
