The boards are filled about individual rights, especially with regard to taxation, but the sound of folks talking about collective responsibility is deafening.
People who have worked hard for what they have, do not have any responsibilities at all to the system that enabled them to be well-paid for their hard work. They have said that over and over again in this forum.

What, exactly, do you mean by "collective responsibility"?
There is NO collective responsibility attached to the exercise of rights, save not violating the rights of others.
Right to life = harmless activity in support of one's life
Personal liberty = Right to travel upon public roads and waterways
Natural liberty = Freedom to think, decide, and act upon one's private property
Our "collective responsibility" is to elect the best representatives possible to do the will of the people, NOT to break the will of a nation's people.

I think what he's saying is that lots of people talk about how they don't want their money taken away, but they don't talk about how they could and should contribute to society.
I think that is making assumptions, though. Most conservative friends of mine spend a lot of time and money helping their communities, volunteering, and donating to charity. More so than most of my liberal friends.
They don't talk about it much, but it's just something you're supposed to do. They still would rather not be taxed heavily and have their money redistributed.

No, wrong. Our collective responsibility is to put back in something commensurate with what our freedom and liberty has allowed us to take out.
All "private property" was once the collective property of all the people. It was given, at no cost, to whomever got there first to grab it. What is the collective responsibility of property owners?
It seems to me that "collective responsibility" has no place in a "Great Debate" forum. Sure there are disagreements over how American's should or should not be taxed, how far the Constitution truly protects individual rights, etc. However, it is my hunch that the majority of the people on this forum would actually agree that people should be "giving back" in some way.
Of course, the definition of "giving back" is somewhat vague. Yet, that is why there millions of people involved in all types of various social and humanitarian causes and not just in one cause. I guess what I am saying is, what is there to debate over?
