If anything, Obama needs to eliminate some more coporate tax loopholes, like the one that gives corporations a 35% tax credit on money that they dish out for excessive executive bonuses. Obama should also put a sales tax on derivative trasactions as well.

Good, we need it now more than ever. Put some money in the pockets of people all over the country that are struggling. This will help the economy as well because the welfare recipients spend the money.

Hell yeah. It was a lack of regulation that got us into this mess in the first place. We let the commercial banks and investment banks mix with the partial repeal of Glass Steagel, the institutions thought they'd make a quick buck trading mortgage backed securities as they ignorantly assumed that housing prices would continue to rise, the bubble burst, housing prices fell and they lost money. Lenders like Countrywide were giving subprime loans to people who should have got regular loans because their salespeople made more money off the subprime loans and thanks to them, many homes are in foreclosure and home values are falling all over. Institutions merged and formed these " too big to fail" mega-institutions and guess what? they failed (well they would have without my tax money). Derivatives were being traded with no regulation, which just gave more incentive for instituions to make bad loans and sell the mortgane backed securities because they could just insure them. No one even did anything to make sure that institutions like AIG had enough assets to pay out insurance claims. All of the above could have been avoided with sufficent regulation. Obama must impose strict regulations now so that this never happens again!

Oh come on. You know damn well what the poster meant by more government: welfare, larger public sector, more regulation ect.. Bush spent 8 years fighting against this. Yeah he didn't believe in small government when it came to funding wars, defense contracts, corporate welfare, abrotion, drugs, and gays, but I doubt this is what the poster meant by more government.
