From time to time, crazy ideas are flipped on the internet by bored individuals.
What they fail to figure is how to put these crazy ideas into practice. Yes, there are tensions between parts of the population, and some folks would love to see that. But will there be enough support for such move? What happens with liberals who live in the mid west and south? Not to speak about the many conservatives in the NE?
And in-spite of what one may think after reading these forums, the majority of US population occupy the middle ground. Will 200 millions surrender to the will of 20-30 million?

I think we should create a system where the minority party can have no less then 40% of the House and Senate and majority party can have no more then 50% of the House and Senate, the other 10% of the seats go to third parties. Yeah, it's not democratic but it will keep one party form having a plurality and technically ending the democratic process. It will also keep us moderate as in order for bills to pass their must be cooperation and compromise between the 2 parties + the third parties.

Any potential future break up of the United States will have nothing at all to do with anything that has gone on previously. Your presumed Southern Stupidity argument and race argument won't even be considered or factored in to the total equation.

Those of us that own our own, usually aren't found hen pecking the classes in this country anyway ... we're much to busy making our own way in this world to be caught up in all of the rhetoric.

If and when the nation does split, you can rest assured that you will most likely be lumped in with your own geopolitical kind and you will be free to not having to worry about your racial and political prejudice.

Your previous state, or group of states, in their new form, will not have to worry about having other previous states paying down your debt for you, and you and yours will be free to pursue your own form of socialism.
You'll be able to kick all of your low class citizens out, and pursue your own skewed perception of what you think government ought to be.
That would be just fine with me. The conservatives can have the white trash states. Places like Oklahoma and Misssissippi. They are welcome to them. Given the choice between California and Mississippi, the choice is obvious to me.
As for the country I don't really care if it breaks up. It is probably too big anyway and the people of the USA have little or nothing in common with each other. We don't share a culture and, increasingly, we do not even share a language. We certainly do not share political and economic views. One group of us thinks that the only thing government should spend a dime on is wars and weapons and that they should not do squat for anybody else. The other thinks that the government should serve the people with such things as highways, healthcare, Social Security and education. One group wants our country to look like Hati (except for the blacks of course) where 10% of the people live lives of luxury and 90% live in total squander. The other group thinks we should look more like Canada. I cast my lot with Canada.
The fact is that the only thing Americans share in common is a flag and nothing else.

Like they say "Delta is ready when you are". If that were to happen, I would move to the Liberal States of America.

Do you religious conservatives in poorer states need liberals for any purpose other than the taxes they are forced to send to your state via Washington DC ?

The idea of an united states of Canada was humourous at first but I wonder if there is not a grain of truth in the idea.
So a question for American liberals, are you more comfortable with the vast majority of Canadians rather than some small town types whose values are shaped by a book and by the need to keep a firearm close at all times ?

So is the time close for the USA to break up ?
The issue no longer is the religious conservatives vs the left wing loons..it is the folks in the center that will soon be rebelling against both sides..extremism on any side of the spectrum is destructive

The United States is a nation. Our union can never be broken.

I suppose from a foreigners perspective it looks as if we're breaking under the pressure, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Americans fight like a family. We've got our loud gun totin' Uncles, crazy cat lady spinster Cousins, hippie pot smokin' Grannies, narcissistic self absorbed teenaged sisters and brothers, and bible thumping gray haired Aunts, and we argue like hell sometimes, but when it really matters we come together and work out our problems.

Believe me, the United States has no intention whatsoever to split up, not ever.

Yeah, we don't want to be part of the socialistic part that takes in Canada or New Zealand. Now maybe Australia but not the other two.

Can you explain what happens when the 40% and the 10% get as bi-partisan as the Dems in Congress now are the Dems also are so partisan. Nothing that I can think of would happen with 50% voting one way and 50% the other.

You just proposed a type of government that has to be parliamentary in form and just isn't going to work in our Presidential form. I may not like what we have right now but I think there is a chance to change it by election and your way won't work.

Well then....SURPRISE. I'm a Libertarian and conservative.

Don't own a gun....pro-choice....college educated....born and raised in NYC and lived outside Boston for 15 years....and an atheist to boot.

Geez...I just blew your entire ignorant stereotype out of the water!

The problem with liberals is while they preach tolerance and diversity, they really only mean that it applies to other liberals with whom they agree and who agree with them. Anyone who disagrees with them is "ignorant" or a "redneck" or "anti-higher education" (never heard that one before) or "a christian fundamentalist" or a "racist" or a "xenophobe" or a whole host of other nasty stereotypes.

I think your post shows who is actually the ignorant one.
