Public Praises Science; Scientists Fault Public, Media

Very interesting survey results. And I found some of it quite shocking, especially the disparity in political values.

Interesting. I didn't quite read the whole thing. I guess I didn't find any of it "shocking." But interesting.

Why do people think that science and religion are supposed to clash? Every religions belief should be the pursuit of truth. For example , many right winged christians dont believe in evolution. Im a christian and I totally believe evolution is proof of gods existence. Where does the biological intricacy involved to make evolution happen come from?

We may not know exactly yet, but to say 'god did it' is being intellectually dishonest.

Not necessarily. In fact, the survey around "God" or a "Higher Power" was one of the aspects that stood out from the scientific community.

However, if the question were around literal translation of religious books as facts, we would likely see a much worse number in favor of religious leanings of the scientists.

Guess that's why I'd take the opinion of a room full scientists over a room full of politicians or the general public. They are more open minded, and seek actual facts. What a concept.

I was amazed that most "largely agree on the beneficial effects of science, with 88% of Republicans, 84% of independents and 83% of Democrats saying the impact is mostly positive". (http://people-press.org/report/?pageid=1546)

I pretty much agree with you. I am a Christian and also believe in evolution. I don't believe the bible is literal. I actually love learning about the science behind the bible stories. It makes them more believable to me.

Evolution is regarded by scientists as a theory.

Religion is regarded as a BELIEF.

Scientists look for additional truth.

Religious folks already know it all, by BELIEF.
