West Point, Georgia and the small towns surrounding it are basking in the glow of the national spotlight thanks to the new KIA plant.
In stark contrast to the nation's sluggish economy, thousands of jobs are being created in Troup County and right over the border in Chambers County, Alabama.
The US has a perfectly healthy auto industry. It's located in the South.
Kia, BMW, Mercedes, Subaru, Hyundai all produce American made cars that people want to buy in places like Alabama, South Carolina and now West Point, GA. The common denominator? They're located in right to work states. So, the last person leaving Michigan please turn out the lights.

Suggest a couple of things to get you familiar with this issue:
Get an atlas- look up "Korea" vs the "USA."
Get a copy of "The Myth Of Free Trade" by Dr. Ravi Batra.
It was published in 1995, but rings truer now than it did then.
I found it amazing that when Kia first announced the plant and the 2,000 or so job openings, they received well over 60,000 applications, most of them out of state, with Michigan being the #1 source. Ironic, considering it was one of Michigan's own (Ford) that pulled the plug on their Atlanta plant, leaving hundreds in Georgia jobless not too many years ago..

Ford built autos in Atlanta; Kia will "assemble" them.
Big difference!
Also, it's all about low wages (race to the bottom so often described), and our complete lack of tariffs to protect our industry from competetors like the Koreans- whose auto workers make $5.00 per hour.

I certainly wish Michigan the best. But it's nice to see Americans building something.

Yep. And with more auto companies moving to "right to work" states, I think we can expect to see wages for their employees slide downward. Oh well - at least we still have minimum wage laws.
With the economy going the way it is, Kia is a breath of fresh air. It's bringing thousands of jobs to Georgia. There are many ppl in areas other than Georgia that have applied and may I add gotten the job. The pay starts off good @ 14.90 with a top out @ 23.50, and that's only for production workers. Others top out @ 30. The benefits kick ass with great deals on cars. The areas surrounding West Point are building luxury apartments with great offers. I was offered 100.00 off rent of 1090.00. They really take care of the KIA people.
if anyone is relocating to KIA from any state, send me a pm and I can give you information that can save you money and also money can be rebated back to you
I'm in the process of relocating between newnan and lagrange. I haven't really made a decision yet. I'm going to see a couple of apartments on thursday. If you know of any with any deals let me know. I'm running out if time. Thank you.
Good for the people of West Georgia and bad for the rest of the United States. Typical of our times.
