I think that many people find it unusual that Obama would come on and preach to us that the results would be 'catastrophic' in nature if we did not pass the stimulus package immediately, yet the vast majority of stimulus projects were not even slated to begin until later this year, on into next year, and continue suspiciously around the time of the mid-term elections.. Furthermore, after the initial $780 billion, a second stimulus of $400 billion was passed soon after without so much as a peep, giving more money to the same institutions as the first package.
The more intelligent individual may notice that Obama is intentionally building up anxiety and doomsday scenarios for the economy, that way the recovery will be all the more glorious... An excellent political tactic on his part, at the expense of the American working class..
I am extremely glad to see this response from the administration.
I think that the question the cabinet secretaries asked is fair and I do not regard the response as a threat in any way.
It was perfectly reasonable for the secretaries to ask the governor if she really doesn't want the money, and to remind her of the benefits of taking it.
If the money won't do any good, why does the good Senator resent being reminded of how it is/will be spent? Why does he care that these projects would no longer be funded?
Oh, I know, his constituents weren't supposed to know what the money is going to be spent on - they might realize that the stimulus will actually benefit AZ. We can't have them thinking that now, can we?
The irony, of course, is that when it comes time for re-election, you just know that Mr. Kyl would point to all of the projects funded by the stimulus as a reason why he should be re-elected. Can't have it both ways.

Wth every benefit there is a cost. This is costing much more then the benefits 6 month construction jobs will ever provide.
oooooooooo back off. tough words from the community organizer party. what are they gonna do if they don't back off? write a strongly worded letter by a lawyer, or start a watchdog group?
No, we only pattycake dictators and terrorists. As for our own citizens, well, we passively beat them into submission. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
If the stimulus were working, the WH wouldn't HAVE to go on the defensive. Duh. Everytime this Pres feels opposition, he hops on a plane, holds a town hall meeting, holds a press conference with canned questions. Predictable, boring, and ineffective. *yawn*
Funny how you say this but you'll claim that he's a failure after six short months. Very ironic.
Anyway, the difference is, unlike Bush, Obama came from an average American family and understands people need healthcare and jobs now. He's taking bold steps to fix these issues, like them or not. If you're jobless or without healthcare, I bet you aren't hoping he sits on his hands.
You're kidding, right? Average American family? He was born to a man that has fathered many children by different women, and he was raised in a muslim country. How do you get that he's from an average family. Add to that the fact that he's never held a real job or run a real business, and he's definately not like most Americans.
Not surprising that Obama is ramping up the rhetoric with his back up against the wall.
Yeah like this: He is a da*n lier! Willing to do whatever to get what he wants.
Yeah a community organizer at just before 50 chides McCain for having lobbyists on his staff> How many has he hired to work in Washington? Bidens own son is a lobbyist.

We have the best government money can buy.
I will add though that banks and corporations seem to be exempt from this; they get the money right away if the government so deems it.
To Republicans who say the stimulus isn’t working: Back off.
Yeah, like that's going to happen.
So they don't want people to mention how wrong they were?
They don't want people to mention that jobs are going down the sh*tter?
They don't want people to be reminded of the statements they made to sell this disaster bill?
Too bad.
The media seems to agree with the majority - so far, the stimulus is an absolute bust.
Seems that obama and his "uniquely qualified" team have some explaining to do.
