Ron Paul is socially conservativewhich is the death knell of progressive values, such as a woman's right to choose what happens to her body, everyone's right to a civil union and the resulting benifits, and the underprivledged being able to live a modicum of dignified life.
I don't agree with all of Paul's ideas but he's a social moderate not a social conservative. If it wasn't for his views on abortion he'd be a social liberal. He is extremely economically conservative, however. He's the exact opposite of Mike Huckabee, who's economically moderate and extremely socially conservative.

Re: Paul and gay marriage, he doesn't think it's the federal government's business and thinks it should be up to the states. And his antiwar credentials are impeccable.

Libertarians aren't really easy to put in a right/left category. The stereotype "economic conservative, social liberal" does have some truth but it doesn't present the entire picture.

Libertarians are easy for me to categorize: Right-Wing Capitalist Libertarians = Ron Paul / Left-Wing Socialist Libertarians = Me
