Well, it is an important issue to me, but I don't at all feel like I "sold myself" when I voted for Obama. I held my nose when I voted for John Kerry over Bush, and I voted for Ralph Nader the election before that. But I like Obama and am still happy I voted for him. Also, he did, after all, vote against going into Iraq when he was a senator. That's one of the main reasons I voted for him in the primary, over Hillary.
But he continues to pour money into WAR, both in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Also, the term "holding your nose" is only meant to pacify your own guilt psychologically. Sort of like how people will make up excuses when they back out of a commitment (a date, hanging out with friends, etc). It's not to make the other person feel better for standing them up. It's to make yourself feel better about it.

All I've been trying to say here is I like Ron Paul's unyielding position on U.S. involvement in foreign wars. If we were more aligned on the abortion issue, I might be persuaded to vote for him, or someone like him in the future.
Whatever works for you. Seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater to me, considering the Obama/Bush team (as well as McCain) was a losing vote all around.
The problem is that Obama is an even bigger war monger than Bush was. Yes he has lied to the face of the liberal peace patrol but the truth is that the military as expended operations as Obama said they would in his book. Obama wants to spread the "one world" ideal all over the world. The media seems to keep Obama's peace facade in place. Obama wants to spread his agenda all over the world and has expanded military operations in many countries. We have bases in close to 150 countries and Obama is expanding the wars. Look for something major to happen soon to justify/publicize the expansion of Obama's nation building war agenda.
And to finance health reform, Paul would like to see the US end its overseas military engagements. “I would cut from overseas spending, I would cut from these trillions and trillions of dollars that we have spent over the years and bring our troops home so that we can finance it [health care].”

Sure..NY'ers will need that healthcare coverage after they attack another one of our buildings again...brilliant

Obama is still saying he's going to bring the troops in Iraq home. If he doesn't, I'll be disappointed and factor that into my vote in 2012. Afghanistan is a very tough issue. I hate the fact that OBL is still most likely there and that he'll never pay for the 9/11 attack. But I doubt seriously that a ground war, especially against the Taliban, is winnable. So....where does that leave us? Walk away? Bomb the hell out of them? Recruit spies and try to kill him and the other Al Queda members? I don't know.
As far as holding my nose to vote for Kerry, I wasn't about to vote for Bush and I didn't want to vote for a 3rd party because the 2000 election was so close and I felt my Nader vote helped put Bush in office. So, I voted for Kerry. But thanks for the psychological insight. So, are you stood up much?
You're the one who thinks my vote for Obama was a losing one. I don't. But I didn't want to vote for Ron Paul, even though I approve of his war stance, so I didn't. I don't know why you find that so hard to understand.

The psychological insight is free of charge. When I stand someone up, I tell them why and don't sugar coat the reason, because I prefer not to be bs-ed with some lame excuse. It has nothing to do with whether I've been stood up (even the most striking individuals have multiple time in their lives)

Cutting all over seas spending besides just miltary would be better.
No aid from govenrment to government then work out some healthcare plan but I sure as heck know Ron Paul doesnt even support the govenrment running it either.
But we have to cut somewhere and that is a good place to start.

Kucinich? Green party? Socialist party?
I seem to have hit a nerve with the "stood up" comment, so let's just leave that alone.
I'm going to say this again and then I'll be done. I happily voted for Obama and I'm glad he won the election. He's certainly not a messiah, but I think he's using his intellect, education and good will to do the best job he can for the country. I am counting on him to bring the troops from Iraq home soon and I hope he puts together a plan for Afghanistan that averts a protracted ground war. I'll evaluate all of his efforts come 2012 when I'm deciding who to vote for then.
I would have considered voting for Ron Paul were it not for his stance on a woman's right to choose whether to terminate a pregnancy and stem cell research, among a few other things. I didn't vote for him and I don't regret not voting for him.
I like Kucinich but don't think he'd be a very effective president because of his quirkiness. I'm not a socialist and would not vote for a socialist party candidate. I have often voted for Green Party candidates and also libertarians in local and state elections, but did not want to do that in the presidential election because I supported Obama.
I think that about covers it.
