It is Obama's intention to gut the US military, as Carter did.
Or perhaps his intention isn't to gut the military, as you put it, but to have less need for the military. Why, just imagine what kinds of things we'd have money for, if we weren't pouring it into military expenditures--or sending our troops off to die in meaningless confrontations?

Just like millions of other people do.
Try the Army and/or Marines if he can't make it on the outside.
We have too many people in the military now.
We need to right-size it; just like they do in every field, company, corporate entity.
I thought you were against welfare; I could be wrong.
Gees... I didn't say he was looking for welfare! He is just a kid out of high school trying to start his life out. I started my adult life in the USAF and I was not looking for "welfare" of any kind.

too bad the rest of the federal goverment shall never get any smaller, just more and more of the beast called the federal goverment.
I have a son in the Navy and my nephew wants to join. He just finished high school but the recruiter told him there are no jobs in any field right now. He said he could probably get him in but he would be put on a waiting list for a job assignment and a school.
That strikes me as odd. What is he supposed to do while on the waiting list? Nothing?
These numbers are from May. I would imagine that with unemployment being what it is, we will probably see similar numbers for June and July.
"Active Component. · Recruiting. All four active services met or exceeded their recruiting goals for May.
· Army – 4,044 accessions with a goal of 3,900; 104 percent
· Navy – 2,542 accessions with a goal of 2,542; 100 percent
· Marine Corps – 2,146 accessions with a goal of 1,516; 142 percent
· Air Force – 2,289 accessions with a goal of 2,279; 100 percent"
My son was given a $20,000 bonus to join the Army Infantry 16 months ago. He spent a year in Afghanistan addressing the Taliban. He attended and graduated from Air Assault School at Fort Campbell and hopes to complete many more schools before being redeployed. I believe they will give him another bonus when he renews his contract. The impression I get is that there are plenty of shooting jobs in the Army.

Obama doesn't feel the need for the US to have a military, since it's his intention to give our country away....
So you see, he is suceeding at one thing....
