Good God . . . don't blame anyone!!! It is a matter of personal responsibility and genetics.
Just b/c there are adult book stores in your town, does that mean you are more likely to look at porn?
People make choices. If those choices are to eat at McD's - their business! If they get fat - their business!!
I predicted less than 2 months ago that the next big thing would be - FAT POLICE and damn - it is happening!
First it was the cigarette police. Now the fat police. What's it gonna be next? The sex police?
Dern. Big Brotha is now watching who wolfs down a big mac.
Why has it gotten so that everyone thinks he/she has the right to judge everyone else in this country?
Who is encouraging this kind of invasive discussion? Think about it!
Our first line of defense should be attacking junk food and fast food restaurants.
When I was growing up there were very few overweight kids in school and very few overweight people I saw on a daily basis. In the 2000's Americans are on average 25-30 pounds heavier compared to people in the same age category in the 1960's.
In the 1960's many homes had two parent households where the Mother stayed home and Dad worked, so a family was more likely to have a home cooked meal instead of eating in fast food restaurants.
Fast food restaurant franchises experienced an explosion in the late 60's and early 1970's. As there was an increase in the number of fast food restaurants and availability of fast food in the USA, there is a direct link between the increase in the weight of the average American.
Fast food fits the "American lifestyle", we work longer hours, have less family time through the week, and to cram a full day of activity into a 12 hour day many people eat fast food on the run.
In countries around the world where American fast food restaurants have been introduced they have also had an increase in overweight people.
Do you think that the U.S. government should be the nation's watchdog with regard to monitoring what Americans eat to control obesity?
Do you think that the government should regulate the quality of food in the fast food industry? And I don't mean TAX-fast food, I mean investigate the quality of ingredients and preparation standards within the fast food industry.
If your speaking of children I blame Xbox, playstation and computers. All kids do is sit around eating chips and crap and playing games all day long not to mention tv. Like was said earlier when I was a kid I was never home always out running around playing ball riding bikes playing soldier etc. etc. Lay off the cola and electronics and all is well or let your kids blow up like the blimp then whine about how it's everybody else's fault.
Why should we do anything about obesity? Obese people as a group are fair game for all sorts of criticism. When studies show health care costs are rising, who gets blamed first? The obese. Not the sexually promiscuous who have been driving up health costs for two decades. Not alcoholics or drug abusers. It's always the obese.
Someone commented that the obese are gross. I am not criticizing that person's opinion as everyone is entitled to their own. With that said, can you think of any other group where a person could say "those people are gross" and not be criticized by anyone?
Please spare me the "It's their choice, it's their fault they are obese." Although it is true many obese are responsible for their plight, many are not. Some people cannot lose weight. Yet it's fine to stereotype all obese people as it being their fault. You can't stereotype any group. Except for the obese.
