Let's hope the government can restructure the medical industry. The average person deserves to have heath care in place of the incredible high profits made by the medical community

The insurance companies MADE PROFITS?????

String 'em up!!!!

(***LIBERAL ALERT***)

BTW, sickofnyc, you were about to tell us what the total sales of each of those companies was, along with the precentage of sales that their profits represented, weren't you? You know, figures which actually mean something for evaluating whether they are "excessive"?

I'm sure you weren't just going to spew out a bunch of figures with no frame of reference, and hope that their size alone would sway otherwise-uninformed people into hating them when it wasn't deserved.... were you?

You're right, nothing wrong with profits. But now since the rates are skyrocketing, and they are by the way and have been for years, receiving large profits at the expense of the American middle class's health and well being, then I've got a major issue with it. If it isn't resolved by either one of these corrupt political parties in Washington soon, the profit angle will have to be taken out of the equation once and for all and let these husslers break into the automobile business instead, where they belong.

Soon someone will come along and state that the profits only amount to 3% overall. More bs.

If we had single-payer these billions of dollars could go towards health care. These billion dollar profits are the main reason that we pay a higher percentage of our GDP on health care than any other country in the world and still have 47 million uninsured.

In May 2007, according to The New York Times: “In the first major investigation of Medicare marketing, the Oklahoma insurance commissioner has documented widespread misconduct by agents working for Humana.” Investigators found signs that agents had used “bait and switch tactics to secure the initial invitation” into Medicare beneficiaries’ homes. The state fined Humana half a million dollars for “using unlicensed agents” and, in some cases, “misleading marketing practices and misrepresentations.” -- The New York Times, May15,2007:

The New York State Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo, stated, “We believe there was an industry-wide scheme perpetuated by some of the nation’s largest health insurers to deceive and defraud consumers.” Mr Cuomo is suing the company for systematically forcing patients to pay more than they should when using doctors and hospitals outside their insurer’s networks. -- The New York Times, February 14, 2008:

Big Profits for the Big Business of Health Insurance

Aetna: In 2007, Aetna applauded itself for its low “medical loss ratio”--the percentage of revenue it “loses” to paying for health care. (Sensitive to public relations, the industry now calls this a “medical benefit ratio.”). Aetna spends less than 80 percent of premiums on health care by avoiding unhealthy enrollees and keeping a lid on services.

Links.

Otherwise this is all just more nonsense from the liberal left.

How can you people sit there and believe this when the OP hasn't even shown proof?

I've just provided you with various links. All you would have to do is cut and past any of this into your browser and many sites with this info will magically appear.

I think it is common knowledge 5-12% is what most major health insurance companies payout in claims in ratio to all monies received.
