"WASHINGTON - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood proclaimed "cash-for-clunkers" a roaring success Wednesday just as the Senate seems poised to push the popular program back into high gear with another $2 billion in cash.
LaHood said that in just a brief time, "the government has proved we can get money out the door and sell almost 160,000 cars."
LaHood is a Republican and former congressman from Illinois. In an interview on CBS's "The Early Show," he called the car-purchase program "a huge boost for the economy."
I guess we'll just have to take LaHood's (great name for him) word for it, since the administration won't release any specifics to prove the success.
I'm sure the usual Obama lack of transparency has nothing to do with him hurriedly wanting to ram another 2 billion into the program.
WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is refusing to quickly release government records on its "cash-for-clunkers" rebate program that would substantiate — or undercut — White House claims of the program's success, even as the president presses the Senate for a quick vote for $2 billion to boost car sales.
What C4C proves is the effectivness of cash incentives. Now apply that model to the procurement of health insurance and WHAM!!!...no more problem. But as we've seen to date it's not health insurance reform that is the goal it is but the creation of a national health / single payer system. The 'reform' we're being sold is merely the first installment on the inevitible take over of the entire health care system by the government.

I'm glad the President is "hurriedly" trying to stimulate the ecomony with a program that's been a proven success. 160,000 cars sold is a success. I guess you'd rather he use the repub slogan of "Just say no" to stimulate the economy.

Please stay on topic and stop the attempted distraction..There are plenty of healthcare threads for you to troll on.
"We are giving away free money" and you don't expect people to jump on it? This has been mismanaged and nothing more than a scheme to bailout the left wing union cronies. The whole thing reeks of corruption.
Please go to Home Depot, buy a pair of needle nose pliers and remove the hook from your mouth. I am sure it doesn't feel all that great.

Ah, more erudite criticism. Thanks for your insights.
What is so great about using YOUR money to buy someone else a car? Government controlled wealth distribution at its best. Socialism, here we come...and fast!
I'm sure that most of these clunker deals are only resulting in the dealers getting more money. Lets see, I'm a dealer and you are buying a car from me. I figure out that you want to use clunker money so I keep the sale price closer to sticker than I otherwise would have (if you could negotiate) knowing that you'll be happy about getting up to $4,500 back from Uncle Sam. In the end it just means that I get that money.
