Drawing on data from the Netherlands on the use of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide and on available U.S. data on costs at the end of life, this analysis explores the degree to which the legalization of physician-assisted suicide might reduce health care costs. The most reasonable estimate is a savings of $627 million.

I've never seen anything wrong with doctor assisted suicide. I know If I'm laying on a bed with lung cancer, I'd much rather end it then go through the humiliating death that would occur otherwise.
Whats the point of keeping these people alive? Those who are in pain and just want to be released from their burden? Its not for the patient, its for the patients family. Because people can't let go, death shouldn't be a thing feared.
In ancient cultures, they celebrated a friends death, but they cried when a child was born. They cried because of the trials that the child would have to go through. They celebrated because their friends hardships were over. Makes perfect sense to me
I don't necessarily have a problem w/ assisted suicide in severe (terminal) situations. I DO have a problem w/ folks that suggest such decisions should be made on a basis of how much money it would save the system.

If you are talking about the "Obama health plan" that wasn't written by Obama, then you are wrong. He flat out said that the "death panel" statement was way off base. He did say that decisions should be made between the physician and the patient, but the government isn't going to step in and say kill them.
I love how the right wing is ratcheting up this hysteria with the talk of death panels & saving money on healthcare with euthanasia. It is irresponsible to scare seniors like this but what do you expect out of the party of fear.You righties think the US is going to turn into some modern day version of the movie "Logan's Run"!
If i'm not mistaken i think Oregon has some laws already allowing euthanasia and if a terminally ill patient would rather not prolong their life due to suffering who are we to restrict their rights?
