I am a liberal and conservative so where do I go?
So many people say they are either liberal or conservative but what if your views are sometimes liberal and sometimes conservative? Am I the only one or is everybody one way or the other?
I vote for candidates, not parties. I vote for people who at least try to do what they say they will do. I do not vote for candidates who just say what they think you want to hear.
I believe businesses deserve a fair shake and an environment that allow growth.and profit but not at the expense of employees pensions. I do not think that business people who treat their employees unfairly or force them to do things that are illegal or unethical should be allowed to get away with that.
I do not think that health insurance should be tied to employment. That seems to be the basis of most of our health care problems. Why should employers be burdened with this?
I also think that gay people have the right to love whoever they choose and to marry like everyone else.
I do not think that allowing illegal aliens to receive social services in this country should be allowed. They should be deported or complete their citizen applications. America needs to enforce the immigration laws.
So what am I? I think I am just an American. Not a liberal not a conservative not a dem or rep. Just a free thinking American. What are you?

I am a Republican though many of my views are in line with the Dems.
I'm more of a moderate than a conservative, though I clearly lean right.
Most people don't share every single stance/belief with their party/ideology and that's perfectly acceptable. In fact, if you do share every single belief with your party/ideology, you're obviously a non-thinker.

Please, find me a socially liberal, fiscally conservative party that actually believes in the Constitution and has a viable chance of winning national positions and I'll happily join.

Fundamentally I think the same, not the same on the issues but people can always think their own way. It's what makes America great to have many ideas, and the flexibility to adapt.
Unfortunately many are fanatical about their own parties, to the point where everyone who doesn't march 100% behind the same thing is the enemy. I don't understand this myself because the only constant in life is change, different people with different values will stand for each party over time...even to the point of switching what each stands for a few times over the course of American history.
I think you belong to the party of rational human beings, which is unfortunately populated by more of the silent majority.

burdell, why don't you just wait until a socially liberal and fiscally conservative party that actually believes in the Constitution has finally established itself in a national position before joining.
Just be satisfied with what you have today. Wouldn't want to waste your vote on the future of the U.S. would ya?

I'm in your boat.
I used to be a Republican. I still have the same fundamental beliefs in the party. I just think the party was tooking over by racist Thugs (Limbaugh, Hannity and Coulter.)
I believe in some Liberal views.
But for the most part I stay in the middle. I do not have a party at all. I vote for whoever represents the country better.

I would say you never were Republican if you honestly think the party was taken over by Limbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter. They did not take anything over.
