Still, assuming all this is untrue about the SMART car, it still has so many flaws that make it more dangerous than other cars such as:
1. Can't hear the engine when driving in the city
2. Lack of visibility when surrounded by larger vehicles
3. Lack of power on the freeway for passing and avoiding possible accidents
One can conclude that hybrid cars, especially SMART cars, are more dangerous than their normal sized gas counterparts. We have already established that they are not economical for the lower to middle class American and that going green really doesn't have much of an impact if China and India and the rest of the BRIC nations continue to open up coal plants every week.
Europe is more efficient than the US out of necessity but there is no reason for the US to follow the Europeans regarding much of their infrastructure.
Although I respectfully disagree with Fred Derf, I enjoyed listing to his point of view and have learned a few things.
Can't hear the engine when driving in the city? Have you ever walked around a city? No one is getting hit because they can't hear an engine.
Seeing as Obama is the biggest liar in the world, it would be as in other instances where he would deny he ever said it even if a video recording proved that he had. I just wonder how many millions that Honda and Toyota put into secret bank accounts for the anointed one.
in the world? do you know everyone in the world? either provide proof that he's the biggest liar or it's a lie.
Why does this country have limited public transportation? There are so many ways to save fossil fuel consumption but at the end of the day they still want us to drive cars because they come with many other costs that stimulate the economy such as insurance, gas, repairs, registration, and the cost of the car itself.
That's a very good question.
Being old, I can answer anecdotally from the Atlantic Region State where I was raised, in the early 1960s, oil companies had great lobbyists stating the wonderful things that petrol will do.
Cities bought into it because the initial busses were subsidized, and did away with streetcars that ran in all weather on electric lines.
I live in boondocks Europe and we have better bus service than most places in the US.
Below is a photo of a wreck in Jefferson Parish, LA (near New Orleans ) between two trucks and a Smart Car. Think I’ll pass on the Smart Car.
I've been driving a 2000 lb car for 22 years, and I am still here. So are millions of motorcycle riders.
So guess what. s**t happens no matter what you drive, even those that drive 18 wheelers end up in just a larger coffin. With a small vehicle, you can many times avoid a oncoming vehicle, and avoid trouble.
Sometime I've driven on the sidewalk, when the street is flooded. Can't do that in a full sized vehicle, unless you want to scrape alot of trees....
LOL! Only if you want to wait 6 to 8 hours. That is how long it takes to recharge the Volt. That battery is only good for 40 miles, after that, you will be running on gasoline and getting worse gas mileage than most of todays sedans.
Altair Nano titanate li-ion batteries, as on the english electric lightening- they charge in 10 mins on an industrial mains system and give a 250 mile range.
Where is the photo of the exact same crash with a Mini Cooper instead of a Hummer?
