The health insurance industry makes BILLIONS of dollars A YEAR in PROFIT. That means all that money (your money) is going into their pockets instead of providing health care. Why do we need insurance companies, when they just usurp the money from people who think they are getting a good deal on health care? Especially when they deny so many claims for bogus reasons in order to maximize that profit.
Imagine if those billions of dollars actually were spent on health care. I never understood the argument that for-profit private insurance companies cost less than UHC. Anyone care to defend that position with reason and facts instead of scare tactics?
So my money either goes to a health care provider or the federal govt?
I'm paying for my health care right now, just mine. With UHC, I pay for other people's health care as well. Hm... which one will I choose.
Right! This poster is looking at the Billions the insurance companies make while ignoring the trillions socialized medicine will cost. Truly weird logic.

If you think that health care premiums are not a hidden tax then you are out of your mind.
Besides, if your taxes don't go up, why in the hell would you care if your tax money goes to provide health care to your fellow Americans? And in case you don't know it already does, in more ways than one.
B/C Govt does not have a proven track record of effecient spending. I could give countless examples, but you could easily find them yourself. Do you think govt run programs, like say, the VA don't deny treatment? What do you do when you are a disabled vet and it takes the VA 3 years to "rate" a percentage towards your injuries/disabilities in order to treat you? If you get fed up with the govt and their bureaucracy, you can take your dollars elsewhere. If the govt is your game, there is no elsewhere. My grandma had her SS check reduced by $100 per month. That's a big deal for a 91 year old. You get a form letter with little to no explanation. When you call, you get the endless round robin of voice prompts and voice mail. When they directed her to a SS office to fill out paperwork, she did so (she doesn't drive so she had to arrange for transportation) and was directed that she would get a call in a few days. They didn't even see her when she made a special trip there! She did get a machine generated phone call which directed her to ANOTHER office to fill out the same stupid paperwork. They purposely make this stuff hard so that you won't pursue it. One of my fellow vets had an appointment to make an appointment with the VA. My friend clearly told the caseworker that he would be out of town during a certain time frame and would not have access to internet. The VA sent him an email, during the timeframe he said he would be away, to reschedule the appointment for the period he was out of town!! If I'm going to pay good money, be it in taxes or for a policy, I darn well don't want to deal with this cr*p.

The problem is, your taxes will indeed go up to pay for it. There is absolutely no other way.
Fewer dollars to the private sector results in fewer tax dollars to the government. Fewer tax dollars to the government in the face of greater expenditures via UHC means higher taxes (this is not debateable). Higher taxes means fewer dollars in the peoples' pockets, which results in less consumer spending. Less consumer spending equals fewer dollars to keep the job market afloat. None of this even takes into account the ballooning debt and deficit that will need to be paid off.
This revolving door of fiscal irresponsibility is more like a flushed toilet - we're either going to be dodging turds or drowning. Not a good scenario either way.
Are you okay with paying for emergency room visits by people who need routine health care but don't have insurance? You're doing that now.
I don't think anyone thinks the current system doesn't need work but how about we insure those who don't have insurance and leave the rest of us alone?

You're already paying for other people's healthcare. Who do you think pays for those ER visits from people without insurance? Who do you think pays for people who stiff the hospital? You and I do. In the form of higher premiums.
