Policy analysts are hammering President Barack Obama's drive for healthcare reform, citing the massive $1 trillion price tag of his plan as well as the very real likelihood that America will be confronted with a disastrous doctor shortage.

According to a Newsmax.TV Special Report on the healthcare debate, critics are wondering where America's healthcare system will get the doctors for tens of millions of new patients, while others are fearful that the government will turn physicians into servants of the state.

“There aren't going to be any doctors around – doctors are going to bail out,” says Kathryn Serkes of the Association of American Physicians & Surgeons. “You may have an insurance policy from the government, you may have a piece of paper, but you won't be able to get an appointment or get into a hospital and get an actual doctor to take care of you.”

p.s. yes it's from NewsMax but nonetheless, it will end up happening. You can't cram 1/2 gallon of milk in a gallon....a mess will surely ensue......the end result of this in and of itself??

RATIONING...LONG WAITING LISTS TO SEE A DR (will be less of them and the ones available will be swamped)....LONGER WAITING LISTS FOR NEEDED TESTS RE: CAN'T GET IN TO SEE A DR TO ORDER SAID TEST.....LONGER WAITING FOR SURGERIES RE: CAN'T GET IN TO SEE SPECIALIST DUE TO LONGER WAITING LISTS...VOILA' AND THERE YOU HAVE IT:

I'm an RN and can completely envision this. Not that anyone here cares about that.........
What about this rampant fearmongering and pandering to the most absurd panic?

This kind of crap is worse than even Glenn Beck is spouting off about!

I thought you were smart enough to figure that out - but I guess I was wrong, so let me spell it right out: tell me, which one of the two claims is a LIE - that anyone today can get medical care when they need it (regardless of whether they have insurance or not (even if they are here illegally)) - or that when everyone in the country has medical coverage it will overwhelm the system?

Waiting...

Where do you practice nursing? I have a hard time believing you are a nurse.

For starters, your math is way off. You can certainly put 32 oz (which is half a gallon ) into a 64 oz container (which is a gallon). Your writing skills leave much to be desired. I'd hate to read your charts.

People already have to wait to get in to see their doctor. A lot of doctors send their patients to emergency rooms.

All the things you mention above I've been seeing for the past few years!

We are not going to run out of doctors. India, Pakistan, the Middle East, Singapore, etc keep pumping them out and sending them over here.

Sorry, but I'm not buying. Your attempt at fear mongering is rather feeble. Better luck next time.

Are there not laws that require hospitals to treat seriously ill patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay? Are there not already state/city/county health departments that provide wellness, immunization, etc. clinics on a sliding fee scale throughout the country that state and local taxes already pay for? We have them here in the Chicago area.

You didn't read the NYT article, did you? Obama's admin officials have already acknowledged that as a problem.

I read the article completely. What the Obama admin officials believe is not the issue because there is no inconsistency in their position - they believe folks without health care coverage are not sufficiently treated for their heath problems and that as a result they only get care when their health problems reach crises level. As I said, THEIR opinion is not the issue. They are CONSISTENT in their position.

The issue is what YOU folks believe - THAT'S where the inconsistency exists. So do you believe that folks without health coverage are getting sufficient care - or do you believe the current health system is not up to the task of covering everyone? It's either ONE or the OTHER. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Where is the proof of her claims?

To my knowledge, the AMA supports the health reform efforts:

Serkes, who has appeared on FOX News, is clearly in the minority at the AMA.

I answered your question. You don't like the answer because it shows the weakness in your thinking.

People get treatment every day at hospitals whether they have insurance or not, and whether they can pay or not. They also get treatment for prevention purposes and non-acute ailments at taxpayer funded state/county/city health clinics.

And, Obama's admin knows there's too few doctors for everyone to get adequate care if millions were suddenly added to a government health care plan.

Why ignore what already works - state and local taxpayer-funded clinincs, to expand what Obama's admin already know will overload the system by flooding too few doctors with millions more patients in an Obama self-aggrandizing national health care plan?

You didn't answer anything - you simply dodged the questions because you don't have a coherent answer.

So - one last time - Is the the current system providing adequate health care for everyone - or is the system overloaded and not doing so?

It's not a hard question.

If you refuse to answer the question, there's nothing I can do about - but rest assured, the frailty of your position is obvious to all. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either the current system in sufficient and working well - or it's NOT - you just can't seem to make up your mind.
