Policy analysts are hammering President Barack Obama's drive for healthcare reform, citing the massive $1 trillion price tag of his plan as well as the very real likelihood that America will be confronted with a disastrous doctor shortage.
According to a Newsmax.TV Special Report on the healthcare debate, critics are wondering where America's healthcare system will get the doctors for tens of millions of new patients, while others are fearful that the government will turn physicians into servants of the state.
“There aren't going to be any doctors around – doctors are going to bail out,” says Kathryn Serkes of the Association of American Physicians & Surgeons. “You may have an insurance policy from the government, you may have a piece of paper, but you won't be able to get an appointment or get into a hospital and get an actual doctor to take care of you.”
p.s. yes it's from NewsMax but nonetheless, it will end up happening. You can't cram 1/2 gallon of milk in a gallon....a mess will surely ensue......the end result of this in and of itself??
RATIONING...LONG WAITING LISTS TO SEE A DR (will be less of them and the ones available will be swamped)....LONGER WAITING LISTS FOR NEEDED TESTS RE: CAN'T GET IN TO SEE A DR TO ORDER SAID TEST.....LONGER WAITING FOR SURGERIES RE: CAN'T GET IN TO SEE SPECIALIST DUE TO LONGER WAITING LISTS...VOILA' AND THERE YOU HAVE IT:
Longevity will decrease, ppl will die unnecessarily due to paragraph above.
I'm an RN and can completely envision this. Not that anyone here cares about that.........

Where did we get all the doctors for the "tens of millions of new patients" that are illegal aliens? Why are doctors going to "bail out?" What are they going to do? Deliver pizza? Why is being a "servant of the state" bad? Are not police, fire and military personnel servants of the state? How many Medicare patients do doctors see? Are those doctors "servants of the state?"
ok, elaborate on your comment then? so if it's just fear tactics....
.....how do you presume that the current number of MD's are going to effectively and efficiently cover the extra 40+ million whom may possibly be thrown into the mix?

Instead of them going to med schools they will be content with flipping burgers.
Also, the morgues of hospitals will have to be expanded to hold dozens of bodies of people who waited weeks until being seen by a doctor. Building morgues will employ more construction workers. The funeral industry will see an increase in business.
Ridiculous. "servants of the state"? They are ALREADY "servants of the insurance companies"!! My own Dr has to constantly check to see what my current plan is, what specialists she can refer me to, whether I can have name or generic meds, etc. The office staff is huge and has to keep up with all the various insurance plans that different people have.
And about a Dr shortage... the argument seems to be that if everyone were able to see a Dr then there might not be enough. The theory is that in order for those of us with insurance to see a Dr in a timely manner we to make sure "tens of millions" of people don't get to? That's kind of sick. Wrong, but sick.
