Time and again, President Obama portrayed himself as the voice of reason combating "myths" and "misinformation" during a town hall meeting on healthcare Tuesday — while he himself weaved a web of gaffes, errors, and misstatements that further muddled the facts on healthcare.

Yeah, I read a quote from the very respected U of Virginia political writer, Larry Sabato, who nailed both Obama and the butt kissing press:

"I had the time yesterday to watch Obama’s New Hampshire event, then I decided to watch all three national news broadcasts: ABC, CBS, NBC. Only Jake Tapper of ABC noted the president’s errors. The correct role of the press is to check the facts of all sides and to point out gaffes and exaggerations.

"Obama has made the AARP error before," Sabato continued. "Did no one on his staff advise him of that?"

Better to read it directly from AARP's website.

AARP Reacts to President’s Health Care Townhall (http://www.aarp.org/aarp/presscenter/pressrelease/articles/prez_townhall_reaction.html - broken link)

They fully support healthcare reform, but have not endorsed any of the versions of healthcare reform bills currently in Congress.

I'm pretty sure most Americans fully support healthcare reform, but have not endorsed any of the versions of healthcare reform bills currently in Congress.

That's what it says. It also states:

"We look forward to working with leaders of both parties, including the President, to build a final package we could endorse that addresses the concerns of the 50-plus population and brings quality, affordable health care choices to every American.”

Means to me that they really do not endorse this plan as it stands.

Newsmax accurately quoted the AARP, but the focus of their story was on the President's inaccuracies. AARP wasn't challenging the President in an overt fashion, they were simply trying to clarify matters. Since they acknowledge that they have actually been working with both Republicans and Democrats in the crafting of this bill, and they have clearly stated what they want from this bill, it's understandable that Obama's perception is their support of the bill. It's notable that the AARP did not say it wouldn't endorse a final version of this bill, and it's notable that the Newsmax article didn't talk about the possibility of the AARP endorsing the bill.

Why would they? This would be speculation and inappropriate for the article.
