If I was president, I'd be smug too. You have to be to deal with the idiots that want to drag you down. Never let them see you sweat, like my daddy always said.

He's smug b/c a year and a half ago he was a no name, know-nothing Senator from a thug state and now he's a thug in the most powerful position in the world, and he's still a know-nothing. Thank the sheeple.

I have heard that. I don't think he is smug at all. He doesn't have a drawl of any sort, so I suspect that's what throws some people off.

Maybe. But I think there is something to it.

They way people talk and whatever kind of accent they have can cause people to react or presume. George W and Bill Clinton had that "folksy" sound, and a pull up a chair and have a beer kind of way about them. Even though Obama actually DID have a beer with some people he comes across as much more formal but maybe a little awkward in a more down-home setting.

In the movie Idiocracy, the average man from the present is thrown into a low class, illiterate future and people mock his speech and accuse him of talking "faggy" because he uses simple words instead of the slang of the times.

I was being a smart ***. But if you ask those people with the drawls, they know what I mean by "uppity"

Now I am not trying to connect them in any way other than facial characteristics.
I make this pose all the time at work. It makes me look very busy and more important. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

"I cant believe you liked Idiocracy too...we should hang out."

I wonder if his "elitist" quality disturbs more disturbable folks than a drawl would have. Anyway, hugely interesting question !
