The other threads were strictly about the programs and their cost to Americans, this thread is strictly about how many people will opt out of the programs, big difference! I was attempting to educate the masses now I'm seeing how many are with me and will opt out!!! YAY!!!

Not a big difference. Please tell me where the bill is in Congress or perhaps a lawsuit questioning its constitutionality? Until then it is strictly fantasy land.

Oh it's fantasy land alright, but more like a night mare. But then I suppose you stand to collect at least what you paid.
I, on the other hand, will not even receive the cash value let alone the time value of money paid.
Even though I've paid a considerable amount I'd opt out. Heck, they can keep every dime I paid without a penny back. That's how much I'd like to opt out and start spending my money now. Why should I be any different than the greedy baby boomers...I just want to spend all my money now and to hades with the future or anything else.
OPT OUT, HELL YES.

Other than summer jobs while in high school and college, I've never paid into Social Security - I was under the "old" civil service retirement system as a federal employee - and so I have never figured on having put in enough time/money to collect Social Security. I guess I "opted out" in '74 when I started working for Uncle Sam. I don't expect to see one dime of whatever I paid into SS (not much) from 1968-1973.
[Federal employees hired after, I think, 1983 pay into Social Security.]

yea, but you have a government backed pension, so you will not be doing bad at all. Although the 1000 extra bucks a month SS would have given you right now would have probably been really nice. Yea from 68-73 you would have barely paid 1,000 bucks into the system, so either way it would not matter for you, but if they kept you in, it is not how much you put in, because it is a ponzi scheme everyone gets way more than they put in. This is why the program doesn't work.

I would opt out in a heartbeat. Even with the volatility in the stock market, my 401K actually hasn't done that badly. I am diversified and not all in stocks. Give me another 7% of my money plus an employer match to invest every year until retirement....HELL YEAH. That's a no brainer.
Plus, as a byproduct it would mean less money for these crooks on Capitol Hill to spend.
