always have people who cannot realistically compete
with the rich and upper middle class.

Keep it for family farmers who need the subsidy to profit. Reform farm subsidies so that people like Bruce Springsteen aren't getting subsidies because they own land that they rent to farmers or Bon Jovi, who gets subsidy payments because he raises bees.
