When one holds all 3 branches of government, they do not need to deal with the opposition. Its his inability to deal with his own party which is losing the left..
You're right. We can't get anything done as long as we try to bring the Republicans on board. My guess is that that ship has sailed.
A public option will pass. And Republicans will be left in the dust.
Just like they were when LBJ fought--and won--against their resistance to Medicare and the Civil Rights Act. The Republicans screamed the same lies and used the same fear tactics then, too.
That's funny. Isn't Obama in the WH because he was "elected" by the left?
No. It was the independents/moderates as usual. The Left is only 15-20% of the electorate. If you take a peek at the exit polls about 20-25% of conservatives voted for obama, but it was the indies that put him over the top.
As I said before, the Left can't put anyone in office on their own.

No, that's an impossibility because every poll and stat shows that the country is much more conservative then liberal. He was elected by people who wanted to be hip and trendy. It was the cool thing to do, but now people are going, "Holy crap, what was I thinking? "

I doubt if he ends up "losing" the left, they kind of lack alternatives to support. What I think is happening though is they have lost a lot of support from the swing voters, who had such a strong dislike of Bush and Cheney they just wanted drastic change.
Now they are becoming more aware of the alternative, and aren't too thrilled with the current direction.
I suspect it will turn into some GOP pickups in 2010, but I seriously doubt the Democrats lose control of Congress. I think a goal of picking up 20 plus seats in the House, and a couple in the Senate, is realistic though.
How low will he go? If the dems try and rahm through UHC with the majority of the country against it - really, really low is my guess.
Low enough that congress will change hands in 2010.
This is more chaotic than Clinton's first term - and the first two years of that term were a disaster.
Clinton moved to the center and negotiated with the newly controlled Republican Congress. Will Obama be willing to do so as well?
