Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist brigade are a bunch of arch-right fundie Christians who cheered the deaths of American soldiers as God's just and rightful punishment of the sons and daughters of a nation that permits homosexuals to live within it. While noting that their right to even contemptible speech must be protected, nobody on the left found either the speech or the behavior anything other than contemptible. They were planning a Novak In Hell protest at the columnist's funeral in DC this morning, but if they made it, the AP report sensibly omitted any mention of them.

It's funny you should mention that though. Alan Keyes ran in the Republican primaries in 1988 or 1992. I voted for him. Don't tell anyone. He's black. Democrats repeatedly refer to Republicans as Nazis. The goal of Nazism was to kill Jews. When it was time for Republicans to lie about a country and invade they picked one of the Jews main enemy. Republicans also lie about how bad Iran is.
