1) Do away with our 700 military bases across the world
2) Charge higher co-pays for those who are overweight and/or smoke
3) It wouldn't be universal, those who want it will check off a little box in their federal income form and they will be taxed appropriately or they can choose to make monthly payments.
4) End the subsidies for Big Agriculture
5) End the war in Iraq and Afghanistan
6) Lower pay in Congress
7) Legalize and tax marijuana
8) Tax sugary sodas

Since I do not support Universal Health Care in any way, shape, fashion or form, I do not have, nor support, any so-called "creative" way(s) to pay for such a scheme.

Well, inasmuch as UHC is not on the radar screen, this thread, while interesting, is moot anyway

Where do you think the uninsured are getting health care now? They aren't langushing at home untreated. They are utilizing the most expensive and inefficient delivery of system of all--the emergency room. Those not currently receiving acute care in the ER are busily ignoring their symptoms until their condition has moved from easily treatable to complicated and expensive, and there they go, to the ER.

Preventive and minor care is much cheaper and faster to deliver than acute care. And it can be delivered by a nurse, PA, or other non allopathic provider, of whom there are an ever growing number.

Are you confusing UHC with single payer or free health care? It's not that at all. UHC simply means removing barriers to health insurance access.

Perhaps I am.

But, since there will be no government option - that insurance will be totally provided by private companies etc - I don't call it "UHC"

And the ONLY way my insurance gets paid, is by me writing a check every month

1. Legalize and Tax Pot/Cocaine/etc and any other drug (except LSD/Acid) certain drugs rightly deserve to be illegal

2. Tax unhealthy behavior (cigarettes and alcohol significantly)

3. Get rid of Social Security (Personally, i want it to end, but given the choice of UHC and a government annuity plan, I'd gladly see the annuity plan go to the wayside)

4. Just for bonus remove crop subsidies ( and let some of those farmers grow pot)

5. Release non-violent prisoners that are in jail for selling or doing pot (would knock our prison population down from 1.5 to just under 300k)

What creative ways would you do it?
Do all that and tax unhealthy foods and drinks. Tax the sugary stuff and not the diet stuff. Can of sugary Coke is $1, can of Coke Zero is 50 cents. Cut military weapons systems spending by half. We are not a jobs program for Lookheed Martin. Cut farm subsidies by 80% at least. Do away with the National Flood Insurance program (if you want to live next to a river, YOU should assume the risk)

Some of the Diet "stuff" is proving more unhealthy than the sugary stuff KevK - who is going to make the determination?

And, you support the government doing social engineering 'eh KevK?
