Nobody spends my money wisely. Maybe not even me. But unlike a giant monster bank, insurance company or other corporate monster, at least I have SOME say in how the government spends my money.

A company manufacturing boats started in the early 1980's with just a few employees but every year, all during the nasty Reagan years, the company added 20,000 to 100,000 square feet to their facility eventually growing to 985 employees in 1990.
At the time the average employee was paid $12.00 an hour which sounds like a crappy wage now but put into the context of inflation what cost $12.00 in 1990 would cost $19.53 in 2008. On top of this crappy wage the company paid for most of family medical insurance taking out $12.00 per week for family coverage.
But there was a problem, this company made boats for RICH PEOPLE and under Bush "read my lips no new taxes" the democratic congress pushed through a bill having a 10% "luxury tax" on boats and cars.
"Yeah, we're finally getting even with the rich folks making em pay!" the people yelled.
I was there, six months after the luxury tax passed the company went from 985 employees to 7.
To this day the town still hasn't recovered.
Politicians and peoples were shocked when the rich didn't just suck it up and pay an extra 10% like they were supposed to.
True story, I was there.
Ohhhhh the poor rich people didn't buy a 3rd yacht. Make me cry!!! Maybe the boat company should have made some boats for blue collar working people to enjoy and not been so much into $500,000 and up yachts.

Damn I'm lucky to be poor.
Everybody at Wal*Mart pays Social Security taxes and Medicare taxes on 100% of what they make- unlike the rich who might pay it on 10% of what they make.

Who do you think the craftsman are who make the ships? Blind hatred for people with money, no matter the consequences??

So you don't think that the craftsman can make a boat for a cop, firefighter or teacher? He can only make a yacht for the rich? You know the same electrician that wired the rich man's 40 room mansion can wire the working man's 3 bedroom townhouse.

What is your problem?
If their is a market has a need for skilled craftsman to build a larger, more expensive end user item, why does the craftsman building it deserve your scorn?
Does it matter who buys the labor of a craftsman? I suppose it would be great n your eyes, if a union worker who made Corvettes lost his job, but you'd feel badly for the guy losing his job who assembled Cavilers? Or maybe you would feel a thrill run up your leg if a mean old Peterbilt or John Deer mechanic lost his job because, no one could afford to buy the product of their labor.
I don't know if you have some larger point that I'm missing, or if you are just a jerk who is caught up in class envy.
I pay over 45% of my income in taxes (federal and state income, social security, medicaid, sales, etc.). I can't think of a single government service I've used in my life other than roads, public transportation, and parks. I'm sure there's something I missed, but I can't imagine it's worth what I pay.

Kind of sucks. I agree. Especially when you consider that the uber rich in America pay such a smaller percentage.
