A lot of Americans always seem to be claiming that "good ole Christian America" is being undermined but I don't think I have ever considered this country truly Christian. No one actually follows what Christ taught. He said above all if you loved him to love your neighbors. He did not say "love your neighbors who have the same political views, voted for the same candidate as you and by all means if they indicate at all that they are socialist be sure to egg their houses!" The Christian-Right seems more interested in just living comfortably where they are at an not having anyone mess with their lifestyle. They support corporations and blame the welfare system for Americas problems, which to me seems opposite of what Christians should think. I think that if Christ was to come back now the conservatives would probably as for his placenta as proof.

I agree with your observations about the Christian hypocrisy in this country, but bear in mind, America was never intended to be a Christian nation. Not to say that it was not intended to be a democratic, caring and free nation, but technically never a Christian nation.

I also don't understand why people believe that America was intended to be a Christian nation. Our founding fathers were mixed beliefs.

The Founding Fathers Were Not Christians

"The Christian right is trying to rewrite the history of the United States as part of its campaign to force its religion on others. They try to depict the founding fathers as pious Christians who wanted the United States to be a Christian nation, with laws that favored Christians and Christianity.

This is patently untrue. The early presidents and patriots were generally Deists or Unitarians, believing in some form of impersonal Providence but rejecting the divinity of Jesus and the absurdities of the Old and New testaments.

Religious beliefs of the Founding Fathers

The US was never meant to be a 'christian nation' in any shape or form. Anyone attempting to mold or remake the US' image into a christian one is no better then the muslim thugs that rule Iran. Theocracies aren't just for muslims you know - and that is a point the evangelicals just can't seem to grasp.

As to conservatives - well, there are fiscal conservatives and then there is the moral majority. The two are not interchangeable.

Actually, I thought the phrase was "de-Christianizing."

The only people "demonizing" Hispanic illegal immigrants are racists.

Just because someone is against illegal immigration in this country does not mean that they are "demonizing" anyone. The U.S. is a sovereign nation. It has borders. It has laws to protect those borders. "Christian-Hispanics" who break those laws do not deserve to be given amnesty or the right to live in this country legally. There are people who have been waiting patiently for YEARS to immigrate to this nation. I think it's disgusting to play the race card on behalf of illegal immigrants. It's also racist: Because illegal immigrants are Hispanic, they should not be held responsible for their actions? Something tells me that if the illegal immigrants were French-Canadian, you probably wouldn't care very much.
