It's funny how the wealthiest states (states with the most millionaires, most educated, highest income/ high earners) are all DARK BLUE on the above chart. Connecticut, New Jersey, California, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, Hawaii.

And all the POOREST states with nearly no millionaires/high earners/uneducated are all RED. Can someone please explain this to me?

Well duh, rich/educated/enlightened folk vote for Democrat.

I remember I was driving out of NYC and I was passing through Pennsylvania and I was behind this ratty Chevy pickup truck at a gas station with a South Carolina license plate with bumper sticker that read "I'll keep my money, guns, and freedom you can keep the "CHANGE""

I read it out loud and went up to him and asked him "and what money do you have?" His redneck face so red in rage as I walked back to my Mercedes. His limited vocabulary obviously left him dumbfounded. Uneducated trailer-trash are such a waste of time and he should be awfully grateful since he would be benefiting from this alleged wealth spreading from wealthy liberals. The wealthiest such as Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are liberals, for instance.

Poor people are the only ones who shout "Socialism!".

It takes a lot more money to live in blue states. The #1 state in terms of most millionaires is New Jersey, which also happens to be one of the most expensive to live in. The higher the cost of living, the higher incomes must be to match it. I am sure most people here can confirm that being a millionaire in some parts of NY, NJ, or CA does not make you all that wealthy.

Curiously, according to CNBC, the top states in terms of economy and livability are majority red, with Texas taking the #1 spot.

Uggg. Texas.

Here are the statistics for top millionaire households metro areas (not including property). Every single one of them are very heavily Democratic...except for Houston which placed #10th despite it being the 4th Largest city in the United States. In any case, Houston went Obama (60%) last year. It's democratic currently, but I don't know if it's "heavy Democratic" yet.

1. New York City ~ Population: 15,198,600 ~ Millionaires: 623,000
2. Los Angeles ~ Population: 10,130,700 ~ Millionaires: 208,200
3. Chicago ~ Population: 7,542,000 ~ Millionaires: 172,200
4. Washington DC ~ Population: 4,298,600 ~ Millionaires: 127,700
5. San Francisco ~ Population: 3,449,500 ~ Millionaires: 120,800
6. Boston ~ Population: 3,672,500 ~ Millionaires: 89,400
7. Philadelphia ~ Population: 4,174,400 ~ Millionaires: 87,600
8. Detroit ~ Population: 3,562,400 ~ Millionaires: 79,500
9. San Jose ~ Population: 1,434,000 ~ Millionaires: 69,500
10. Houston ~ Population: 4,393,000 ~ Millionaires: 68,400

These scary liberal areas sure do seem unproductive/welfareish, right? Let's be honest; people are only attracted to states like Texas because it's cheap. The highest earning, most productive ones (who happen to pay most of the country's taxes) AND voted for Obama knowing damn well their taxes will be raised to benefit people like YOU will always live in areas like New York, San Francisco, and Connecticut and aren't going to Texas.

I do find examples of this to be very strange. Some people will fight tooth and nail for policy that will not make things very easy for them to get by.

If a lot of these rednecks get what they want, I will be living a relatively luxurious life at THEIR expense. I would prefer there to be less of an income disparity in this country, even at the risk of not making as much money myself. However, if I do not get my preference in this country, I am not going to be someone that loses from it. Just don't come complaining to me when I am living more than comfortably while you are struggling to get by in the system YOU WANTED.

If that is the case, why do people flock from New Jersey, New York, Michigan, and California to have their own 1 1/2 acre suburban plots in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, or Texas? When Kia announced their plans to build an assembly plant in Georgia, they received over 50,000 applications for only 1,500 job openings, most of which came from the Rust Belt and Michigan.

The fact of the matter is for the past 15-20 years, people have been flocking to the Sunbelt region for better jobs, living accommodations, and quality of life. What do you think was fueling the housing bubble to begin with? As a matter of fact, I would go as far to say that the population shift to red states on the Sunbelt left glutted markets in key portions of the Northeast and California that eventually caused the bottom to drop out of the housing market. Of course, a significant portion of those moving down are young families who could not possibly afford to survive in the NE or CA.

A couple of thoughts about the data posted in the OP:

- Wealthier counties prove the value of a fine education. Once taught HOW to think, liberated minds move to the left of center, contrasted by the GOP side where millions blindly follow what they are TOLD to think by right wing blowhards and preachers.

- Most recipient states are red states with huge farm subsidies or are the old Confederate states, implying a serious racial bias in GOP voters, especially now with what's left of the GOP voters since so many have deserted the party of Limbaugh and Dobson.

I'm talking about white-collar professionals who carry most of the country's tax burden (and happen to vote Democratic). They do not flock to Texas. They are attracted to New York City, San Francisco, etc. and stay there.

How many Fortune 500 CEO's/investment bankers/top professionals/other highly compensated people are flocking to Alabama? How many people in Alabama even earn over $200,000? 20? LOL, most of these loons you hear screaming "SOCIALISM!" are poor, pay little to nothing when it comes to taxes and don't know anything outside of their Oklahoma trailer park bubble. They didn't even know what the word "Socialism!" meant until they heard it on Rush Limbaugh's talk radio in their pickup on the way to the local Dairy Queen.

It's no secret that the higher your education, the most likely you are to vote democrat.

..Charlotte, NC has become a large center for banking/finance. Atlanta, Georgia is also home to a plethora of large corporations and Fortune 500 companies. Alabama is the state that put a man on the moon. North Carolina is home to Research Triangle Park, one of the largest industrial and scientific research parks on the planet. And who would need over 200K in income in Alabama? Prices are not as inflated as they are in other parts of the country. And actually, white collar professionals are flocking to Alabama.. Especially the Birmingham and Huntsville areas.

Seems to me that you refuse to accept the fact that the Southern states will inevitably pass blue states over the next couple of decades in terms of technological and industrial output, as well as growth and quality of life.

As are those who have absolutely no higher education or are high school dropouts. Obama dominated in those two categories last November.

And they still both fail miserably when it comes to attracting and producing high-income earners. Especially when compared to liberal NYC, Washington and San Francisco.

Good for Alabama. Unfortunately, it's still a low-income, backwards, uneducated cesspool with a dark past that holds absolutely no allure. Didn't some town in Alabama have its first racially integrated prom last year? (versus the segregated "colored" and white prom)? Well at least the state's taking baby steps.

And the last time I checked, Atlanta and Charlotte were both....BLUE.

And who really needs to earn $1,000,000 a year in New York? That doesn't stop people in New York City from earning $1,000,000 per year. It's not what you need, it's what you're worth.

Seems to me that you refuse to wake up from that deep dream. The day those red welfare States (Alabama, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky) pass up California, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Washington, Massachusetts will be the day hell freezes over.

Don't forget another subgroup; the wealthiest Americans and highest educated.
