I agree. Kennedy chose death for an innocent young woman while he fought for his life near the end. To name this health care bill (that will not pass) after Kennedy he coward would be spitting in the face of Mary Joe' parents.
The Democrats are just using Kennedy to try and garner support for this socialist bill. I guess like the crisis the Demoncrats have decided to never lt a good dead man go to waste.
"Mary Joe"? Ahhhh, your concern for her life is overwhelming.
The mistake Kennedy made was to drink and drive. Because of that mistake Mary Jo died. Had he stopped drinking the rest of his life than he would have shown the world he had learned and changed his ways. He did not learn and how can one can not redeem one self while he chooses to take the same course that got Mary Jo killed. He never really changed the root problem
How about the last 17 years of his life? What did he do with that portion of his time on earth?
No. She ran a stop SIGN without even so much as slowing down, going AT LEAST 55 MPH (since that was the speed limit), and possibly more, which we'll never know because the one part of the police report that was mysteriously "smudged" was the speed at which she was driving.
Also, she was never given any kind of sobriety test, nor was her blood alcohol level tested, so we'll never know if she, too, may have been driving drunk. Having a wealthy family certainly came to her advantage.
Ted Kennedy's family, however, INSISTED on a full investigation and inquest, the results of which did not reflect well on the Senator, but they MADE IT PUBLIC ANYWAY. There was a GRAND JURY called to hear evidence, including the inquest.
Ted Kennedy also went back to the party he had been attending, and GOT TWO PEOPLE TO DRIVE HIM BACK AND TRY TO HELP.
So absolutely everything you said was flat out wrong.
I've actually read portions of the inquest transcript. I didn't think it made him look bad in re the accident. In terms of what they all were doing that night, yes, it did make him look bad, but not in terms of the accident, IMO. Maybe that's why the grand jury did not return an indictment.
I don't think anybody here really cares about Mary Jo. Myself included. Most people are just using her as a stick to be Teddy with.
However, my main beef is that so many people are actively excusing the fact that a drunken idiot killed someone because of his politics. If it was a Republican Senator, you'd be constantly mentioning it. But since he is a dead Democrat it is somehow in bad taste to mention that his story had holes big enough he could walk his obese ass right through them.
What documents have you read which leads you to believe what you said? Have you read the inquest transcript? Have you looked at the police reports? Have you looked at the exhibit photos? Have you verified any time lines?
OR, did you read that book about the incident which was written by a journalist with an EXTREME bias against Ted Kennedy, which (the book) was posted on a "hate Teddy" web site put up by Republicans when Kennedy ran for President?
From what sources did you come to the conclusion that there were "holes big enough he could walk his obese ass right through them"??????
Michael Dutton Douglas, at the age of 17, was killed in 1963 by Laura Welch, later to become Laura Bush, when she ran a stop sign and plowed into his car.
Strange but I never hear the wingnuts bring this up...but Mary Jo Kopechne is always on the tips of their hate filled tongues.
I think 17 year olds shouldn't be driving. 18 is a better age to start issuing driver's lecenses. Those vehicles were so dangerous back then too. As memory serves me seat belts were still a factory option. So she drove through the stop sign and got t-boned. Teen-agers aren't very good divers.
She ran a stoplight and hit someone else who hit a stoplight.
As opposed to Kennedy who left the scene of the accident, did not attempt to get help, and used his and his family's influence in the state to halt all investigations into the incident.
10 hours is a long time to not go to the police. Long enough to get the blood alcohol level down and come up with a story. A normal person would have done 15 years.

Btw, you asked me for a thread in re Mary Jo and Ted Kennedy. I started one. It didn't last long. Where were you?
I cannot imagine what it would have been like to be a Kennedy back in the 1960's. He had two brothers shot and murdered, social drinking was different back then. It was a stupid tragic accident but the idea Kennedy had to spend the rest of his life hiding or something is irrational. The idea he could not go out and do good with his life is childish on their part and shows they can't debate issues.
I'll never understand why bridges like that didn't have guard rails...you can blame so many factors on that accident.
You never see these Kennedy haters attacking the men who murdered his brothers in cold blood. They are hypocrits.
