European Socialists need “to think a lot harder about what the state can and can’t do in the 21st century,” he said.

Where does the recent election loses of the left in many parts of Europe fit into this? Those who advocate for big government in Europe are going to have to deal with the reality that those days are coming to an end. Much of Europe will have to start shrinking the role of government in the near future because of demographic changes that will affect the tax collection needed to support their welfare systems.

Anyway, I think you are misunderstanding me- text is a lousy way to discuss things.

But you are correct, this is a democracy. And in this particular democracy, a good chunk of people have some concerns about adopting certain healthcare reforms. Obviously its not something that is easily accomplished. Were it so, it would have been done already. There are legitimate questions of cost, efficiency, access, bureacratic inertia, the role of the state, the role of the private sector, rationing, etc. These are not to be taken lightly.

Again, have you deconstructed and analyzed the Danish healthcare system?
I have not looked into Denmark's healthcare system. Knowing the Danes I would suspect it's a single payer system and has all the bells and whistles.
I have looked at ALL the costs of these health care systems (including Switizerland) in Europe and do know they cover EVERYONE and COST LESS than the US system.

There are plenty of real World examples along with objective data that show how Government can improve the lives of citizens.
Show me the part of the constitution where "improving the lifes of the citizens" is an enumerated power of the federal government.

Ill wait for your response sourcing specific sections.

For all of you who have written here enthralled with Denmark in particular and Europe generally, one thing that you fail to take into consideration is the extent to which that continent has been getting a free ride for over 50 years at U.S. expense. On the defense side we have been Europes's shield and that has drained our treasury. If these magnificent European societies had had to foot the bill for their own defense all these years their taxes would not only have been high, they would have been confiscatory. In the same way much of their health care, including technology and medicines, they owe to American ingenuity and investment. They are coasting on our dime. Europeans are so used to being taken care of that that they cannot even acknowledge their indebtedness to America. That's why I find their moral posturing nauseating.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The article fails to mention the election of a Socialist goverment in Greece, for example.

The article fails to mention the fact that the EU has just ratified/passed Lisbon Treaty which solidifies the State structure upon the entire EU member countries.

You've got to remember that what passes for the left in Europe, would be consider communist in the USA.
And what passes for the Right would probably be liberal democrat in the USA.

The entire EU structure is based upon Big State concept which will influence social policy, economic policy, military policy and civil policy.

Then I guess I am wondering why you would tout something that you have not even looked at?

You do that when you have a rank and file system to support. Know nothing, but knod in agreement, because thats what your party tells you to do. Or.. you are so focused on opposing the "enemy" of the opposition party that you will argue them while being completely ignorant.

Oh well then I must have been unclear. I would tout any system that would lead to covering more people at a lower cost.

Anybody that is on the fence about health care reform in the US should look at this video.
