Interesting conversation/topic...I must admit that for a long time I had a lot of preconceived notions about porn, and about how demeaning it is to women, how it promotes violence and lack of respect, etc., and that's all I really knew about it....however, I am learning that is not necessarily the case. Have a former high school friend who we all learned is a senior editor/publisher within the adult industry. He has been kindly patient with several of us, especially me, with cazillion questions...about the industry, does it contribute to creating pedophiles, is it demeaning to women, and I have learned about how the adult industry is opposed, vehemently to child porn, the strict medical rules, the husband-wife actors/actresses etc. I guess it is one of those debates that will always go on and it perhaps comes down to what is comfortable for each person....and I don't know how healthy or constructive it is to judge anyone else or their likes or dislikes....and what goes on in one's home is their private right...I don't know that I would like someone deciding what I can or cannot do as long as it does not infringe on anyone else's rights or harm anyone else.....probably will get some flack on this post but I think to mix facts, or lack thereof with emotions and one's personal mores does not always meld well together when it comes out as a judgement for all.
Doesn't she have her own business(es) too, smart business woman I hear tell...do you really think the government can see everything we do? Yikes that seems pretty scary but then again remember reading 1984 and people thinking that was outrageous....and then there is the Song of Songs in the Bible..hmmm, can't think that would be banned after all these centuries, can it?
I think porn is fine. If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to log on or go to the "back room" of the video store.
Some specific points some have made that I'd like to address:
1. Porn does not "create" pedophiles. This is paraphilia and it has much to do with behavioral conditioning (which is much more complex than most people think - there's much more past classic and operant conditioning) and impulse control and not so much to do with porn itself. Watching a porn will not make you a sexual deviant.
2. The idea that porn demeans, destroys, does disservice to et cetera of women is first of all a subjective assessment. I have friends who are in the adult entertainment field and they aren't there because they are desperate for money, are sex addicts, have no other skills, or were abused as kids - they do this work because they want to, they enjoy it, are treated well and get paid well to boot.
3. As far a porn goes on the internet and kids watching it. I also think that parents might want to also take some responsibility for their children instead of screaming for the government to protect their kids - take some responsibility people. There are more than ample ways to keep your kids from seeing adult material online - plenty of applications, services and software suites are available.
Agree, and to the uptight community,
please, if you just want to limit yourself to missionary, please go ahead, but don't prevent others from enjoying other positions.
And stop making up lies like porn leads to pedophilia. Gosh.
So I guess nobody really cares about the serious issues about the link between the porn industry and human trafficking, and organised crime. After all these women only exist to ensure your sex life benefits. It's nice to know.
